Alleged GOP Blackmail Plot Exposed

Law enforcement officials are trying desperately to apprehend – and save the life of – an alleged blackmailer who supposedly met with a bloody rebuke at the hands of state law enforcement officers after attempting to extort $200,000 from a prominent S.C. Republican official, multiple sources have confirmed to FITS.

In addition to these sources, a senior agent at the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has confirmed details of the alleged extortion drama to FITS, and sources even closer to the top at SLED tell us that the agency has been in contact with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) requesting that they look into the matter.

Rumors of the alleged drama have been making their way through South Carolina political circles in hushed tones for several months now, first reaching our ears last November.

We initially dismissed the accusations as too far-fetched to be true, however we began to dig deeper after sources at SLED confirmed details of the alleged incident to us.

Anyway, here is the chilling narrative as told to us by our network of sources:

Last year, an unidentified blackmailer allegedly went to the home of S.C. Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson with information of a highly personal and sensitive nature involving a prominent South Carolina Republican official.

Multiple theories exist as to the identity of this GOP official (and the nature of the information ostensibly provided to Dawson), but for the purposes of this narrative and on the advice of our attorneys we are sticking exclusively to what has been confirmed to us by law enforcement personnel, not political sources.

After divulging the nature of the incriminating material, the blackmailer is said to have requested $200,000 dollars to furnish all copies of the material in their possession to Dawson.

According to our sources, after viewing a sample of the material and receiving the extortion demand, Dawson reportedly told the blackmailer to give him twenty-four hours to come up with the money.

The next day, the blackmailer is said to have returned to Dawson’s home, only they didn’t receive the money – but were instead taken away and given a savage beating by three SLED agents.

Following the beat down, the blackmailer was reportedly informed that “this is what happens” to people who attempt to extort money from elected officials in South Carolina.

They were also reportedly informed that they had 24 hours to leave the state and never return – an “offer” the blackmailer accepted.

The identity of the agents who participated in the alleged beat down is as yet unknown, and our law enforcement sources have declined to identify them at this point.

Rumors of a rogue band of “heavies” within SLED have been the stuff of political legend for years in South Carolina, although this is the first time those rumors have been tied to a specific incident.

If true, everyone involved in this alleged affair would be guilty of committing a crime – the blackmailer for attempting to extort money from a public official, Dawson for failing to report the extortion attempt, and obviously the three SLED agents for dispensing vigilante justice.

Originally, we were informed that SLED Chief Reggie Lloyd was aware of a group of vigilantes within his agency that performed such functions for top political officials, but this information has been contradicted by several SLED agents, including those who are not particularly friendly with Lloyd – the first African-American to head up the agency.

Lloyd, who has encountered resistance in his efforts to reform the agency, could not be reached for comment related to this story, nor would anyone at SLED comment for the record.

Sources at the agency say the new chief is “outraged” at the reports and is pushing for a full federal investigation of the incident.

In fact, one agent who opposed Lloyd’s appointment by Gov. Mark Sanford last year told us he expected the SLED chief to “drop the hammer” on anyone involved in such unauthorized activity.

State Republican Party officials also declined to comment on the record for this story.

Incidentally, in the course of our investigating these claims, several threats have been made against our founding editor and his family.

As a result of these threats, we have been forced to take additional protective measures.

For people that are used to being “above the law”, this is a dangerous turn of events. Those types don’t take well to someone telling them they are not gods.

Sic Willie, Reggie Lloyd, and others had better be careful. Very careful indeed.

One more thing, is Lindsey Graham the unnamed official?

How about some evidence, if you don’t mind.

By U are F****d Up on January 25th, 2009 at 4:44 pm

Will, you wait less than a week before Katon’s race to drop this? You have obviously done all you can to help ensure Katon loses this national GOP race. And as always, no proof on your ridiculous accusations. You and your cronies are the reason our state party is so fractured. You are sick.

From the story …

“Multiple theories exist as to the identity of this GOP official (and the nature of the information ostensibly provided to Dawson), but for the purposes of this narrative and on the advice of our attorneys we are sticking exclusively to what has been confirmed to us by law enforcement personnel, not political sources.”

We’re not going to elaborate further than that.

“U are F****d Up-”

We’ll have another story tomorrow focusing on how this news became part of the public record … and Chairman Dawson’s prominent role in that process.

Will, I enjoy reading your blog, even when I disagree. That said, I have to admit I am skeptical about what you are writing in this post. The folks at SLED and the SCHP are by and large good people who do thankless jobs. Also, though he has his failures as GOP Chairman, I don’t see Dawson calling in some guys to beat up a blackmailer. Why would a guy who was contemplating seeking national party office for the past couple of years get himself involved in such a controversy? It makes no sense.

All that said, I know it is no fun to be threatened because of your words. I have been there. But, Will, don’t allow your anger at those who threaten harm to you and your family cause you to write something that could destroy your credibility. That is an age old tactic.

You and I have two very different ideas about what it is to be a Republican in South Carolina. As such, I will duke it out with you and your staffers any day on this and that issue. But, if your family is being threatened, I stand with you in denouncing such deplorable tactics.

Okay, so now what? Will we find out anything specific, or do we simply continue to wander in the clouds. Telling us that someone with political connections had someone else roughted up and then covered it up is like telling us that politicians say one thing on Monday and another on Tuesday. We know that. Is there more?

By Todd on January 26th, 2009 at 12:08 pm

Anybody else think the blackmailer has trumped up the “salvage beating” story in efforts to mitigate his sentence upon conviction of his blackmail charges? Dawson called SLED which is law enforcement, so he should be okay.

By Freddie Mercury on January 26th, 2009 at 12:33 pm

Todd,

Lots of people call on SLED, with many different outcomes. Without the support and courage of the rank-and-file at SLED, there is no way a director can ensure integrity at that agency.

Elroy,

Right. We are wallpapering fog here, Willie — all hoping it is our own personal favorite that is about to bite the dust.

By Joshua on January 26th, 2009 at 12:53 pm

Agreeing with Todd – If Chairman Dawson’s intent was to alert law enforcement by calling SLED agents, he’s off the hook. The alleged SLED guys would be very much on the hook, for intimidation (possibly witness tampering), assault under color of law, and a few other things. The blackmailer wouldn’t be off the hook either, though, since blackmail is pretty well illegal, too. I’d love to know the identity of the blackmailer as much as the identity of the blackmailee. Plenty of scandal to go around here, IMHO.

Will – Stay on this story. You know what the old flyboys say – you’re only taking flak if you’re over the target. Your safety and that of your family will be in our prayers.

If it could be true and there is enough evidence, this HAS TO BE INVESTIGATED!

To prematurely declare all accused parties innocent is as bad as declaring all accused parties guilty–especially where politicians are concerned.

The people should be their overseers if elected officials and government employees are indeed public servants. As such, the accusations should be openly examined by the press, law enforcement, and us.

It’s pretty obvious what this concerns and the timing could not have been worse for Graham and his crony, Katon Dawson at the time of the attempted extortion. When the truth gets out, all parties involved, especially Graham and his gang, should be removed from office or other positions of power.

First of all Lindsey as you call him, controls the FBI. He also stops Secret Service investigations.
Second of all, people should believe this story. In fact, people should be highly disturbed by it.
Third of all, many , many “politics people” have A LOT to hide, not always necessary what you think or want to believe.
Fourth, is there a reason Katon Dawson would NOT call the regular law enforcement people who handle this type thing?
Maybe… just maybe… he got the same treatment I did. NO RESPONSE> because you see, there are huge , tremendous , almost unbelievable federal financial crimes going on right in front of everyone’s eyes. ( I asked FITS to help me tell this story… he ignored me.)

The FBI has long been tainted — and they are only a stone’s throw from SLED over in St. Andrews, you know.

Here is what SLED/FBI has provided me for all those tax dollars [mine AND yours!] handed over to them:

YEARS of surveillance, based on fictitious, wishful thinking of one horny, greedy, power-hungry old bastard:

“I think she is a PROSTITUTE!!! INVESTIGATE HER!!!” *

Due to these suspicions/wishful thoughts being delivered to SLED/FBI via the attorney general or the governor**, they were deemed credible.

This led to thousands of man-hours of bullshit, all on YOUR dime, South Carolina. All in the hopes of eventually driving me TO prostitution due to meddling and getting me fired or harassed away from NEARLY every job I had — up to and including a certain unnamed state agency with regulatory abilities. [Not smart.]

It was not about sex — it was about control, political power, humiliation, and domination — the same things the KKK has been after for many, many years. That ‘hunger’ is still active in Lexington County, South Carolina. It branches out from there. In my experience.

* – her = wife AND mother, mind you.
** – not the current office holders.

Oh. But I’ve said too much, already.

Anyway…do you happen to drive a beige vehicle? If so, that would fall SO INTO my theory.

The BIN News Editorial staff commends MAB on her allegation that she has only slept with “_______M. ________, Sr.” over the last 22 years.

Perhaps that’s part of her problem. Perhaps some “strange” (odd word, not ours) over the last 22 years would have broadened her vision. :)

Oddly, MAB is concerned about the color of the car(s) driven by BIN Staff.

sic(k) willie and his minions are experienced stalkers. MAB should have a thick file of photos of the cars driven by the BIN News staff.

BIN,

I commend you on that laser-like focus; it IS a peculiar idiom: ’strange’

It was acquired during my travels abroad to Texas. The natives use that one and ’squirrelly’ with reckless abandon; I took them in as my very own.

Any files are likely in that Nelson Mullins monolith downtown. They may even have specific floors with a designated staff. And their own unique cost center, for our bookkeeping pleasure.

All that opulence while people are freezing and starving and not getting enough loving.

The BIN News Editorial Staff met in executive session today to discuss MAB and her peculiar obsession with BIN News. Our founding editor is flattered, but several BIN Executives are concerned that her obsession is unhealthy.

Therefore, today we increased the voltage on the security fence around BIN News and all BIN News staffers are getting security systems at BIN expense.

MAB,

Does sic(k) willie have any updates on this latest scam of his? We’ve always said he is the kind of person who will f@rt in church and walk out early.

By MAB on January 30th, 2009 at 9:04 pm

At least he goes to church, BIN. Do you have a church home?

By MAB on January 30th, 2009 at 9:06 pm

I volunteered to tote Barack Obama to Sunday School. I can tote you, too.

I think there is a Senator from Lexington County that is controlling SLED and The Department of Public Safety.

#######################

1. Why not attach a name to this Senator? It’s Jake Knotts.
2. Why not attach a name to the Lexington County Solicitor controlling the Senator? It’s Donnie Myers.
3. Why not attach a name to who is controlling BIN? It’s _________________.

BIN,

The longer you avoid The Mabster, the more obvious it becomes that your Howie Rich rants are a but a smoke screen.

The Mabster hath spoken…

Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

By BIN News Editorial Staff on February 2nd, 2009 at 12:03 am

MAB,

Please explain a connection between th2 female SLED agents and the “beat down squad” sic(k) willie claims. Are they the “beat down squad”? Doubt it.

And are you suggesting Jakie Knotts controls SLED? MAB, the stuff you smoked during the “summer of love” has really smoked your brain. Are you suggesting Donnie Myers controls SLED? It must have really fried your brain.

MAB, the BIN News Staff patiently waits for you to make an honest man out of sic(k) willie. Convince him to tell us who the Midlands’ elected official is who he claims has a Strom problem, and tell him to give us details about his allegation the gub’ner paid off the family of some “poor little black girl” here in Beaufort. Then we hope to hear about the “beat down squad.”

MAB, you certainly don’t sleep with sic(k) willie, but you certainly sleep with he dust bunnies under his bad.

Still waiting for details and facts. So far this looks like another willie scam.

“‘this is what happens’ to people who attempt to extort money from elected officials in South Carolina”

You forgot the word “republican”.

This is what happens to people who attempt to extort money from REPUBLICAN elected officials in South Carolina.

By MAB on February 3rd, 2009 at 8:11 pm

Me,

This distinction is highly significant because Donnie Myers and Jakie Knotts are now REPUBLICANS — but only because they can’t be DIXIECRATS anymore.

They are both old enough, you know.

By BIN News on February 13th, 2009 at 12:22 am

MAB, we are still waiting. It is increasingly clear this is just another sic(k) willie scam. Make it up to us with the pictures that you promised of you “buck naked” decorating a Christmas tree. Make them soft core, like willie’s porn.
