Gotcha Alert: Joaquin Phoenix Rap Debut

Joaquin Phoenix is bat shit crazy, people, but he’s got a decent set of pipes.

After all, Phoenix and his co-star Reese Witherspoon famously did their own vocals in the critically-acclaimed 2005 hit Walk The Line, a stark biopic of country legend Johnny Cash that netted the Puerto Rican actor an Academy Award nomination.

But when Phoenix announced last October that he was giving up acting to focus on a professional rap career, heads turned.

Was he serious? Well, judging by his first “concert” in Las Vegas over the weekend, the answer is no. Not even a little bit.

Here’s the video of the, um, performance:

And here’s the video of Phoenix busting his ass off the side of the stage at the end of his one-song set:

Yeah … and Diddy is rumored to be producing his debut record.

We’re going to go out on a limb and guess that Joaquin Phoenix didn’t really get this plastered, perform an unintelligible one-song rap set and then fall off the stage in the name of attempting to be taken seriously as a rapper.

More likely, friend and fellow actor Casey Affleck (who was filming a “documentary” during Phoenix’s rap debut) is making what we suspect will be a hilarious movie that includes, among other things, Joaquin Phoenix getting drunk, pretending to be a rapper and then falling off-stage.

Either that, or somebody’s going way out of their way to give this dude some cover for what could be the greatest celebrity meltdown of all time.

Either way, he’s still better than K-Fed.

It was a shame to hear he was giving acting up because he is a great one. I caught a bit of Gladiator recently and he flat out stole that film. Here’s hoping it was a ruse.

Yes I realize this is extremely old news. JP rapping. But saying somebody’s rapping is better than KFed certainly isn’t saying much.
