Three weeks after getting thoroughly trounced by Iowa in the Outback Bowl, South Carolina is once again on the losing end of a competition with the Hawkeye State, only this time the prize was much bigger than school pride.
Dubuque, Iowa beat out Greenville, S.C. yesterday for 1,300 jobs – specifically, a new IBM service center.
In an economic environment like this one, the news was nothing short of devastating.
According to the Greenville News, one of the reasons Iowa was chosen was its “strong academic base.”
Which is obviously something we don’t have here … along with a competitive tax, legal or regulatory climate.
In fact when you stop and think about it, it’s a friggin’ miracle there are any jobs in South Carolina at all.
If it weren’t for stacking boxes our unemployment rate would be 100%, people.

Cut out the blah-blah-blah corporate speak and get to the real reason: public-private partnership = CASH.
Rather than expand where IBM already has facilities (and get nothing but a pat on the back) it chose to whore itself to the highest bidder.
Follow the money and the truth will set you free.
