O-Soda You Can Believe In?
As much as we’d like to take a trip down memory lane with Denise Richards and our DVD player right now, we have to stop for a minute and ponder a much less appetizing sort of interchangeability.
Specifically, we just assumed that those were Obama balloons in the background, but it turns out they’re not.
Obviously, that is Denise Richards, Carmen Electra and one lucky dog (actually named “Lucky”) hanging out at a pre-Obama inauguration celebration in Los Angeles, but the balloons for this Obamabration are courtesy of Pepsi Cola, not “The One.”
That’s because Pepsi has a new logo, which it basically ripped off from the Obama campaign and has been relentlessly pushing with a barrage of meaningless feelgood PC-speak that elevates the consumption of cola to some transcendental event – not unlike next week’s Baraugural.
Here’s Pepsi’s North American Marketing VP describing the logo from a recent Atlanta Journal-Constitution story:
In the initial phases, and we’re just in the seeding phase, I think there will be people who actually will not know it’s Pepsi,†Cooper said. “And that’s OK. But I think there will be a small group of people who will be on the inside of it and who can start the conversation on their own terms.â€
“The logo itself is dynamic. It has depth. It has a certain energy to it. When you move from that wave to a smile, a certain humanity comes from that.â€
“It’s about a mind-set, a way of approaching the world.â€
No it’s not, you idiot. It’s about a soft drink – one that quite frankly has never tasted as good as Coca-Cola.
In fact, if you’re thinking of boycotting Pepsi over this, don’t do it because of the company’s descent into New Age babble, do it because it doesn’t taste good.
Of course, good luck trying to kick your Mountain Dew habit …
Anyway … Denise Richards … where were we …

@Mab – At least you include yourself in your berations.
It is said that emulation is the highest form of flattery, and who better to flatter than the head man in charge!? I think it’s a very strategic move and they know exactly what they’re doing…just like every other company still surviving after all these years (without the help of a government bailout – I think those companies knew exactly what they were doing too FREE MONEY but that’s another story!).

1. COKE
“The Coca-Cola logo was first advertised in the Atlanta Journal in 1915 and also appeared on the display of Pemberton’s pharmacy. A Coca-Cola dispenser with a Cola-Cola logo was later created by Raymond Loewy. The Coca-Cola logo got registered as a trademark in ***1887*** and has since then become the brand’s corporate identity.”
2. PEPSI
“Pepsi-Cola is one of the most famous soft drinks consumed worldwide. Manufactured and marketed by PepsiCo, it was first developed and produced in the early 1890’s by Caleb Bradham, a pharmacist in New Bern, North Carolina labeled as “Brad’s drinkâ€. In 1898, Bradham renamed his drink into “Pepsi-Cola In ***1898***, Bradham used a scribbled logo script as the first Pepsi logo to brand the product.”
