It’s Not Raining Perverts Quite As Hard

Although more than one in ten children still receive unwanted sexual solicitations online, the good news is that the number is declining.

Also, most of the people doing the soliciting are kids themselves, not the middle aged men you see on Dateline or whatever that stupid show is where they lure white trailer trash types with Taxi Driver fantasies.

According to a study conducted by Harvard University’s Internet Safety Technical Task Force, the percentage of kids who were solicited online dropped to 13% in 2006, compared to 19% in 2000.

Which is awesome, unless of course you happen to like perverts stalking your kids on the internet.

Additionally, the task force cited a study from last year showing that 14% of Los Angeles teenagers using the popular social networking site MySpace reported receiving unwanted messages of a sexual nature or with sexually-explicit links.

Amazingly, only 4% to 9% of those messages came from adults 21 years of age or older.

This is akin to Big Tobacco saying its healthy to smoke. Seriously? 4-9 percent is too much. There has to be a way to keep the kids safe. Plus, now that these studies are out, you can bet that more perverts will be on these sites with nothing to worry about. Good going Myspace!!
