Make Sure It Says “Katon Dawson”

It probably seems like we’ve been ganging up on SCGOP Chairman Katon Dawson the last couple of weeks, but the truth is we think he’s “absolutely, positooty” the last person Republicans should pick to run their national party.

Without putting too fine a point on it, the GOP doesn’t need another glad-handing, snake oil salesman with old ideas and segregationist credentials – one who (oh by the way) currently presides over the most fiscally liberal Republican Party in the entire nation.

Seriously, people, Katon Dawson’s “plan” to reinvent the Republican Party is so laughably devoid of substance that we had to, well, laugh.

It’s just the same old blah-fucking-blah that got the GOP into its current mess, and is quite possibly the most hackneyed, bromidic piece of political nonsense we’ve ever had the misfortune of reading.

To wit:

“Our Party must restore hope to everyday Americans by clearly communicating the practical applications of modern conservatism to the realities they face. And, we should do all of this with joy in our hearts and a smile our face.”

First of all, vomit.

Second of all, there’s no such thing as “modern conservatism.” The Republicans killed that in its infancy back in 1994.

Third, we’re pretty sure that anybody talking about the “practical applications of modern conservatism” doesn’t have a fucking clue what “clearly communicating” is all about … because we’re pretty sure the “practical applications of modern conservatism” doesn’t mean a damn thing to a Darlington County family whose breadwinner is unemployed, whose house just got foreclosed and whose kids attend one of the shittiest public schools known to man.

But Dawson isn’t just about pablum and platitudes.

He puts the SCGOP’s money where his fast-talking mouth is … which is to say in other states.

Nearly half a million dollars of it – at last count.

Of course, we neglected to include in that tally the $20,000 he spent to run this little ditty up in Minnesota during the 2008 Republican Convention:

In case you missed the tagline at the end, this ad was “paid for by the South Carolina Republican Party, Katon Dawson, Chairman.”

Wait … “Katon Dawson, Chairman?” Is that, like, required by the FEC or something?

Of course it’s not … and as any political ad writer will tell you, “seconds count,” which means there’s absolutely no reason for this ad to have Katon Dawson’s name in it.

Unless of course he’s just your typical vainglorious Republican knucklehead who’s in politics for all the wrong reasons.

Anyway, the SCGOP spent at least $20,000 (that we know of) to run this ad in Minnesota, a state no Republican presidential candidate has won since 1972.

Also, at the time Dawson’s Minnesota ad aired, the McCain campaign had actually pulled all of its advertisements off the air because of the massive amount of free media that the GOP convention was receiving.

Paying for TV time simply wasn’t necessary … except for Katon Dawson.

If this isn’t pure, unadulterated grandstanding, we don’t know what is.

Dawson’s “plan,” his ad, his leadership … all of it is hot air, you see, meaningless regurgitations of 1990 talking points that make sense only in the stale, institutionalized minds of Republican strategists who’ve gotten their asses handed to them in each of the last two elections.

This is precisely the sort of trash Republicans need to take out, not place at the head of their diminished columns.

Ok Fits, don’tcha know how much money the SCGOP has ?? They have to spend some money . Actually it’s probably that they have SO much, they HAVE to spend it.
You ever wonder where all that money comes from???? Cause I know where some of it is coming from and other people DO NOT KNOW MY STORY.
Trust me FITS< it’s truly a story about where this money comes from……

Well said Will.

Katon also had his name added to the blue McCain/Palin bumper stickers everyone passed around paid for by the SCGOP….Katon Dawson, Chairman.

Oh and look at the SCGOP website….damn…..I think that its actually the Katon Dawson website…..at least it confused the hell out of my little sister. She thought Katon Dawson was running for Governor! His name was on the cover page of the website 7 or 8 times, complete with a freaking welcome video.

I am certain that 90% of the donors to SCGOP wouldnt want to be funding this dumbass’ campaign for ANYTHING after what he has done to South Carolina.

I watched part of the GOP Chairman’s debate yesterday. I say part because I turned the damn thing off after Katon said he would “hold Republicans accountable.” What a lying sack of shit. Not once while our current class of Republican idiots have raised spending over 40% in just the last 4 years has Katon Dawson done a DAMN thing.

When every single Republican serving in congress from SC, save Jim Demint, voted for the bailout and subsequently squandered the wealth of our entire state, Katon Dawson remain mute.

When Bobby Big Government Harrell and his socialist comrades publically scorned and embarrased conservative Republicans Nikki Haley and Nathan Ballentine for proposing common sense transparency measures, Katon Dawson remained mute.

He likely didnt understand enough about the issues to take a position because he has been so consumed with this bullshit chairman’s race.

If the Republicans want to get out of their current mess, a bad move and a serious step backwards would be choosing a racist ideolistically challenged good ol boy like Katon.

Please tell me….in the time Katon has worked for the SCGOP…..how many African Americans has he hired? Thats what I thought.

He almost cried talking about his efforts to get African Americans involved in the party, but he really has done nothing……I guess he was too busy with that mint juliep over at Forest Lake while he was dancing the waltz and the ultra chalky Camelia Ball.

Fire Katon. Hire someone worth a shit. Lets clean up our own back yard before we go gallavanting all over the state begging other Repubs to follow our lead.

I don’t know much about this Katon Dawson. But I was very unimpressed by his fluffy, fawning interview with Howard Rich. I wondered how GOPers targeted by Rich and SCRG and the like felt about it….maybe it wasn’t that big a deal to them. I don’t know.

The lunatic libertarian fringe of the Republican Party in this state has an abysmal record of job creation and economic growth. Rather than make this state any better of a place to live, Mark Sanford, Scott English, Will Folks, Nikki Haley and Tom Davis have staged press conferences and grandstanded. Showmanship is not leadership. It’s nothing more than transparent gamesmanship. Results matter. I can tell you right now that these reprehensible personalities will not seize anymore power in this state than they have already been unfortunately afforded. They will not impose anymore than they already have on the people of this state simply so Mark Sanford can pretend to have a record to run on in Iowa. The joke is up on you people. Everyone gets it.

Katon is an idiot.

By James the Foot Soldier on January 6th, 2009 at 10:59 pm

Rod – you’re mistaken – the lunatic fringe RINOs in the party have been exposed!

Governor Sandford has held press conference after press conference warning of the out of control gov’ment spending: 10% increases in EACH year for the past few years.

Go be an ass-kissin’ donkey if you love government this and government that so much.

sic(k) willie finally used a cliche’ we agree with: “snake oil.”

It certainly sums up what Republicrats and Democrudlians have been selling us for years. Remember the stupid “no new tax” pledge, the so called “education” lottery scam, the wacko claim that a Midland’s elected official has a Strom problem, the bogus claim the gub’ner paid off the family of some “poor little black girl” in Beaufort, the gub’ner lite getting brazillions of tax dollars for his postage stamp sized lot in Lexington County (taxpayer rip off).

Later we will get back to the gub’ner lite being chased by the Highway Patrol at over 100 MPH while he radioed as “SC2″ and the fact a Columbia Policeman had to draw a weapon on him for his screaming reaction at being stopped for running red lights downtown Columbia at a brazillion miles per hour.

sic(k) willie, you are so full of snake oil that your teeth are floating.

So is Andre’.

Hey thanks James! I’m glad we got guys like you with solutions to the world’s problems on the ground so that we may make some progress!

As for your claim that the lunatic fringe RINOs have been exposed, you are so right! After all, SC political bloggers usually determine the outcome of elections! If we didn’t have great guys like Will Folks and his buddies, where would we be?! I doubt anyone would even care about politics!! LOLZ!!1

Man what a great day! I’m so thrilled we have so many smart people involved in the process!!!!!! I don’t know about you, but when Obama was elected, I hid my guns in a safe and flew a “Don’t tread on me” flag above my house. If you didn’t, you’re not American.

Thanks for your analysis Will. Well said. I too am fed up with these empty suits who claim to be conservatives, but act only in their self-interests and bleed the conservative movement dry. They’re opportunists, and they make me sick. Katon Dawson is the poster-boy for these guys. He’s done absolutely nothing at all to deserve a promotion to Chairman. I’ve worked closely with these guys who are in politics for the wrong reasons so I have a special distaste for them.
