We Missed A Couple Katon Kontributions

If you think SCGOP Katon Dawson’s recent plan to divert hundreds of thousands of dollars from South Carolina races to other states was a good thing for the GOP nationwide, then you’re going to love this news.

If you think the plan was all about Dawson buying votes in his race for Republican National Committee Chairman, you’ll probably also love this news – albeit for different reasons.

According to the SCGOP, Dawson spent another $155,000 of party money in addition to the quarter million we reported on earlier today.

Two of those contributions we missed because they came quite late in the reporting process – a $30,000 nut to the Tennessee GOP the day before the national election and a $50,000 contribution to the Georgia Republican Party two days after the election, presumably to assist in the runoff election of Sen. Saxby Chambliss.

The other contribution – a $75,000 nut to Virginia – was made in early October, and for whatever reason our researchers flat out missed that one. Which means somebody will be getting a spanking later.

All told, Dawson’s contributions on behalf of the SCGOP to other state parties now total nearly half a million dollars.

Oh, our source also wondered aloud about our motivational incompetence, fretting that we didn’t initially include these items because “it’s just more fun to tell half-truths to attempt to stir things up.”

Damn … they’ve figured us out!

Actually, we’ve taken no position on whether or not Dawson’s decision to allocate this money was appropriate or not.

It’s not that we don’t want to take a position, we just haven’t had a chance to study the impact of that money, justifications for sending it, etc.

I think you are barking up the wrong tree here. I know several local county parties have used their resources to help other states and counties. I know from personal experience, that we did this in Anderson County.

When I was Chairman in Anderson, we called Florida and Ohio for Bush in 2004. Just this year, members of our party called Georgia and other states. We were very fortunate to have The Pickens County GOP calling in Anderson for some of our candidates.

I say this to let you know that we, as Republicans, help other states and counties to reach their goals of winning races. I don’t see any thing different here.

Katon has been an excellent Chairman. We are recognized as one of the most Republican states in the country. I think a lot of that can be attributed to him, his energy, and his dedication. He also surrounds himself with some pretty good folks down at the SCGOP HQ.

I have been involved in Republican politics for many years. Our party is stronger and in better financial health now, than in years past. Remember, Katon inherited a deficit and a pending FEC investigation and fine. He’s raised millions and we have won a majority of the races in the state.

I think the SCGOP has done the right thing.

Rick:

You say “we are recognized as one of the most Republican states in the country.” If only being recognized as such meant we really are. In name only, unfortunately. Watch your wallets.

Hopefully since the money went out of state, some of the votes went too.
