Minnesota’s never-ending U.S. Senate race rolled on toward an ignominious absence of resolution today, although two new players emerged in the contentious count-off between GOP Sen. Norm Coleman and Democratic challenger Al Franken.

How close is this race? Out of 3 million ballots cast, CNN currently has Coleman ahead … by 5 votes.

Anyway, one of the new players was Minnesota Viking-slayer Brett Favre, who appeared as a write-in for President on a ballot that was counted for Coleman.

The other? A group known as the “Lizard People,” who appeared as write-ins for President on a similarly-marked ballot that wasn’t counted for Franken.

Both ballots are below for your enjoyment … and head over to FiveThirtyEight.com for more on the crazy ballot story.

Incidentally, this race was already the most expensive U.S. Senate contest in the nation when it was supposed to have “ended” way back on Nov. 4.

At that point, Franken had spent over $18 million, while Coleman had dropped $14.7 million to hang onto his seat.

Since then, an additional $4 million has flowed into the race to both candidates.
