South Carolina will be without its top defensive player when it takes on the University of Iowa in the Outback Bowl on January 1.
Strong safety Emmanuel Cook, a junior, has been declared academically ineligible according to The Gamecock student newspaper.
From their story:
“Right now, it appears that Emanuel Cook didn’t make it,” (head coach Steve) Spurrier said.
Ouch.
Cook led the Gamecocks this season with 87 tackles. He’ll be missed, assuming South Carolina actually decides to show up and play against the Hawkeyes.
Obviously if they decide not to show up (like they did against Florida and Clempsun), he won’t be missed.

If there’s one thing you can count on in Lamecock football, it’s a consistent pattern – of mediocrity and players who continue to put themselves ahead of their team. Cook is a punk in the mold of Blake “5th Year Senior Punk” Mitchell who did the same thing a couple years back.
When you put yourself ahead of yoru team – you are a punk.
Not to mention the face time Cook might have gotten with a few NFL scouts at the Outhouse Bowl.
