Everybody in the sporting world is going absolutely nuts today over a video of Oklahoma High School star Barry Sanders, Jr., and of course by everybody we mean DeadSpin and With Leather, which let’s face it are infinitely more entertaining reads than ESPN and CNNSI.
Anyway, Sanders Jr. (son of NFL legend Barry Sanders) is a freshman at Heritage Hall High School in Oklahoma City, and he’s obviously “got game,” as the kids say.
But while this is indeed a heckuva run for a fifteen-year-old kid (he’s even got the “cock diesel” touchdown pose down), it’s pretty obvious he stepped out of bounds at the 45-yard line.
Careful, Superman. Those white lines are Kryptonite. The man holding you down.
Needless to say, though, college coaches all over America probably sprung some pretty painful erections watching this tape. You can’t coach speed and agility, people, and Barry Jr. obviously has both in ridonkulous quantities.
“He’s already bigger than his dad,†Heritage Hall coach Andy Bogert said earlier this year. “And he’s only going to get bigger, stronger and faster.â€
Yikes.
We’re not ready to crown this kid the prince of football just yet (anybody remember Maurice Clarett?), but having watched the Detroit Lions play once already this season, he’s definitely better than any running back on his dad’s former team.

Enjoy it Barry while you can… there aren’t a whole lot of teams in college with an all-white defense.

Yeah, somehow I doubt that Oklahoma high school defenses are up to the task. There’s a reason that Bob Stoops builds his championship teams by recruiting in Texas, not Oklahoma.
