SC Governor Gets Fake Anthrax Letter

S.C. Governor Mark Sanford became one of at least nine governors to receive a fake anthrax letter this morning, sources tell FITS.

The letter containing a “suspicious white powder” was discovered by Leslie Sims, a staffer in the governor’s correspondence office. Sims did not open the letter, but immediately turned it over to officials with the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

The Wade Hampton building – which houses the governor’s correspondence office – was evacuated after the letter was discovered, and hazmat teams poured in to check for contamination.

The discovery did not interrupt a meeting of the State Budget and Control Board in an adjoining office, however, although staffers from the Wade Hampton building have been moved to the State House as a precaution.

The letter contained “bleached flour,” according to sources investigating the matter, and was discovered at around 10:30 a.m.

Eight other governors have received similar letters this week, according to published reports, including Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

Where there any guards on duty to report this to?

By EyesWideOpen on December 11th, 2008 at 3:55 pm

There aren’t any guards stationed in the Wade Hampton building….they are only in the statehouse and around the exterior of the complex.

There was no guard at the gate where the mail truck entered through an open gate.

The damn legislature cant even manage statehouse security……what losers.

Did the $7 million security system stop the letter?

By Roscoe P. Coltrane on December 11th, 2008 at 5:35 pm

dont be messing with the Speaker, Bobby dont play

By Crazy Cooter on December 11th, 2008 at 5:53 pm

I know the 7 million security system didn’t work Ol Marky Mark reassigned the officers from the gates. Regarless of that who ever is playing around with white powder needs to be locked up for a long time. That included T-Rav!

It was flour, you Neanderthal. Guess they should round up all the usual suspects — the bakers.

By bird on December 11th, 2008 at 6:49 pm

They could probably could leave alone all bakers who are hippies, vegans, run-of-the-mill organic health nuts, or Mormons — they would NEVER use bleached flour.

Roscoe P. Coltrane you need to watch your mouth. How dare you insinuate that the Speaker had anything to do with this? That is libelous per se and I plan on sending this to the Speaker’s Office so that they can get your information.

By Randy on December 11th, 2008 at 9:02 pm

WMD, get a life and a J-O-B.

By WMD on December 11th, 2008 at 9:19 pm

Randy why are you defending the libelous actions of this comment? And the libelousness of FITSNEWS in publishing it? The Speaker had nothing to do with this cowardly attention-grabbing attempt by some troubled soul like Sick(KKK) Willie and any body who suggest otherwise is guilty of LIBEL. And any web site which publishes it is guilty of SLANDER.

But worry not because Sic(KKK) Willie and all of his racist, sexist schemes will be made known soon.

You cannot hide from us behind those lawyers forever. Like the Scarlett Letter you will have to show your true face.

BIN … err, WMD,

Get a grip, dude.

More importantly, you two boneheads need to spring for a cool avatar like General Longstreet has.

Looking good, General!

sic(k) willie,

We respect that fact your limited inteligence detected that WMD is not a member of the BIN News Editorial Staff. Never has been. Never will be.

He does have some excellent insight into your perverted thought processes, but it appears he needs to let some pressure off of his shoe laces.

P.S. WMD, keep it a little more real, dude.

Whoa, WMD…when BIN starts dissing your posts as nutty…

By Frank on December 12th, 2008 at 4:12 am

Could it be that the a.k.a “Teflon Don” of Lexington County, a.k.a “RINO” a.k.a “Snakie” Jakie Knotts sent the letter to the governor in his attempt to intimidate Governor Sanford from having him investigated for obstructing justice in the DHEC criminal case that the Senator is accused of interfering with former investigator Christopher Phillips’ criminal case. Who is now sueing DHEC due to this Senator’s direct involvment where he demanded to DHEC department heads that(Christopher Phillips) “be taken off the case and punished, if not fired” all because Jakie was friends with one of the defendants and Jakie’s attorney & campaign manager who happens to be representing the defendants in this case.

OK, all kidding aside, I don’t believe Senator Knotts sent the letter to the Governor, but I do believe there is enough evidence that he obstructed justice in the DHEC criminal investigation case.

By Silence the Noise on December 12th, 2008 at 10:15 am

WMD and BIN…..thats clever….posting about your own posts. And as for the claims of Libel…..its nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get convicted of Libel against an elected official in office…..nearly impossible.

I am not defending any claims that the speaker had anything to do with the anthrax scare….err baking powder faux….all I am saying is you might need to learn a bit more about the laws before giving legal advice….

An anyone wanting proof of who WMD is then just monitor the communication coming into the speakers office…..all of which is FOIA-able…..and when you see either some old woman or an ignorant punk writing in about libel then you got your culprit.

The only two US M-states (of the total 8) that weren’t represented in this flour sifting were Maryland and Massachusetts. Anyone else think that’s odd?

I hate these squirrelly computers…type an 8 and close paren…and there’s that dadgum sunshine boy again.
