Keep It Simple Sanford

Whether he’s comparing himself to the Roman General Cincinnatus, regurgitating Eighteenth Century Scottish philosophers or getting incredibly “micro” at press conferences with his armful of charts and graphs, S.C. Gov. Mark Sanford has a bad habit of talking over people’s heads.

Like “way” over …

That trait is fine, unless of course you’re planning a run for president and are thus becoming a regular on cable shows like the one hosted by Joe Scarborough, where apparently thoughts must be distilled into hackneyed bromidic platitudes that Washington insiders can easily understand.

In other words, Cincinnatus need not apply.

Anyway, in typical fashion Sanford was “going deep” on Scarborough’s show this morning when its host (a former colleague of the governor’s in the U.S. House) stopped him for a moment …

“Hey Mark, Let me ask you a quick question, brother, where did I go to school undergrad? Alabama. Roll Tide. I didn’t follow you there. Don’t throw those numbers at me.”

Enjoy … the whole thing is awkward, but it gets really funny at the 6:30 mark when they start trying to get Sanford to shut up and he keeps throwing numbers at them …

Of course in all fairness to Sanford, at least he didn’t look as bad as Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland, who begged the Senate to pass the automotive bailout to “keep this depression from becoming a depression.”

Hmmm …
