Aquinas -- well-stated, my man. And you don't even get riled up about it. HOW DO YOU DO THAT????????
............

Asking a priest to keep quiet takes away HIS free choice, Mande. Does everyone have free choice but the Christians? Good Grief Girl!

Jesus said in Luke 19:40,

"I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out."

Mande-

If I'm preaching to the choir then perhaps you will understand why clerics need to defend and preach to the choir when wackos like Madonna show up, cheapening something sacred. Unfortunately in today's society the deification of pop icons makes it awfully hard for those with little to no religious foundation to make some important distinctions. As scripture teaches, the human heart can be deceived.

Madonna does unfortunately have "power" to an extent, as all images and icons do. Why do you think there are so many iconic symbols throughout Christianity? Before folks could read, the Church created and commissioned incredible works of art to lead the faithful to a deeper understanding of the mysteries of the faith.

The clergy has a sacred duty to explain and defend the faith. To turn a blind eye and do nothing is simply allowing couterfeits to take hold and/or shape of our collective consciences. As one theologian put it, if the truth is not proclaimed, we inevitably fall for a lie.

Aquinas -

You are preaching to the choir, as it were, with your statements regarding the sanctity of sex and the importance that it be exclusive to marriage.

It is exactly that sanctity which I believe is cheapened by liturgical sound bites about some performer's effect on one's heart. To confer unto Madonna that power is to deny that most Godly of all notions: Free choice.

If Madonna offends God, the offense is surely hers and hers alone.

It never ceases to amaze me that people from all walks of life who have no clue what the Catholic Church actually teaches arrogantly feel like they can weigh in with some inane comments about what the Church supposedly teaches.

Mande, I don't know what your religious bent is (if there's one at all), but darlin', you have no clue what you're talking about. First of all, Catholicism teaches that Jesus was fully human and fully divine, and that in his humanity, he came into the world the same as you and I: 9 months of development within his mother's womb (ever heard the Hail Mary recited? "Blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus"? It comes straight from scripture; check it out some time).

Now to this ridiculous statement: "Madonna’s Chilean concert tour is no more an offense to God than the embedded Christian denial of sex, self, and spirit." Allow me to let you in on a little secret: The Church is in the forefront of defending the beauty, dignity, joy, and yes, the “divinity” of sexual love. This can only be done when we defend the divine design of sexuality. For the Church, sexual love is so good, so sacred, so special, so beautiful and so powerful, that the Creator intends that it be used only by a man and a woman united in faithful, life-giving, lifelong marriage. Anything outside of this is not a proper use of sex but an abuse, and leads to a destruction of self, of partner, of culture, of society, and of life. And Madonna is at the forefront of this abuse when she reduces human sexuality to a mere act between penetrator and penetrated. Yeah, THAT'S very inspiring. No perversion there.

The Church dares to claim that the conjugal love of a husband and wife is an icon, a mirror, of God’s love. That's what it approves of, and what it attempts to defend when confrontd with the forces of sexual license. If that ain't the fusion of sex, self, and spirit, I don't know what is.

Next time, please try and show a bit of humility and a touch of respect when you discuss Catholic teachings. You don't have to agree, but at least attempt to discuss it with some understanding of what is really taught.

You really need to retake the bar exam. You need a job. This blog cr@p is a waste of of your talents (whatever they are), and it makes you look stupid.

Love ya, baby doll.

Too funny, CL!!!

...

Or Mande--God forbid you should just rely on the "Oxford Junior Dictionary"...which will hereafter drop the following words:

"bishop" "chapel" "disciple" "minister" "sin" and "devil"

[Source: http://www.churchexecutive.com/news.asp?N_ID=1639]

Christianity has a rich, enduring, living heritage that Madonna, the media, the public schools, the courts, nor the Catholic mafia will ever diminish.

I don't know what is more entertaining about this post, your obvious ignorance of Christianity or the suggestion that Madonna could spark lustful feelings in anyone who is not a vampire.

A quick Google search of "immaculate conception" would have told you that it has nothing to do with the birth of Jesus. It refers to the Catholic concept that Mary was not tainted by sin.

And, since it is an article of faith only for Catholics, it does not represent an "embedded Christian denial" of anything.

Maybe you should not rely on the thesaurus as your only reference book when you write an article.

Mmmm. Feel the Christian charity emanating from rmk.

Don't you think Medina's comments are a special kind of blasphemy? He says that god is offended, but what he means is that he is offended. The only conclusion I can draw is that he has mistaken himself for god.
