Chops On Sticks (Update)

What should have been a simple, friendly wager over a college football game took a decidedly “Sic Willie” turn today, as interstate gaming officials scrambled to determine whether or not our founding editor’s would-be reward of “chops on sticks” could be interpreted to mean private time with a group of minor league hockey cheerleaders.

Yup … we’re not kidding.

At issue is a bet on the 2009 Outback Bowl between FITS founding editor Sic Willie and Grant Young, the editor of a leading Iowa political blog called Questions, Comments & Insult.

If Young’s Iowa Hawkeyes win the game, Sic is supposed to fork over a bag of boiled peanuts (South Carolina’s official snack food) to his Middle American friend.

Should the South Carolina Shamecocks prevail, however, our founding editor is in line to receive some of Iowa’s famous “chops on sticks.”

Not surprisingly, however, nothing is ever as easy (or appropriate) as it should be with Sic Willie, who is now insisting that his definition of “chops on sticks” specifically referred to some “alone time” with an all-female dance team for Iowa’s new minor league hockey team, which is named the Iowa Chops.

After brusquely insulting Iowans in announcing the wager, apparently Sic feels he is now entitled to share in some of the most desirable female company the state has to offer.

“If I win this wager, I expect them to be bathed and brought to me,” he said.

Informed that the dance team was referred to as the “Baby Backs,” not the “Chops,” and that none of them had sticks, Sic graciously agreed to provide one.

Classy, classy, classy.
