Cotton Boll, Etc.

We don’t get as many opportunities as we’d like to check out new blogs, but somebody forwarded us a link to the Cotton Boll Conspiracy the other day and we gotta admit, we were pretty impressed.

Most blogs (including this one from time to time) are little more than ADD on the Internet. The authors have nothing interesting to say, can’t write their way out of a paper bag and as a result are “appreciated” only by a handful of family members and close friends who have no choice but to read.

Cotton Boll Conspiracy is not one of those blogs.

Created last month, the site features thought-provoking content, solid writing, high brow conservative opinion and seems to be updated fairly frequently, all of which are things we like.

In fact, CBC’s latest story (an interesting take on the automotive bailout) is a perfect example of why we bookmarked them … because let’s face it, how many of us are honestly on the Ludwig von Mises Institute’s mailing list?

The Olafur Eliasson Institute is the limit of our European influence, people.

HARD TIMES AT WIS

One of South Carolina’s top television stations has laid off several employees, including a veteran political reporter.

As was reported in this morning’s La Socialista, WIS-TV has let seven workers go, and while the station isn’t releasing names, it wasn’t too hard to discover that one of them is David Stanton, who in addition to being a news anchor has covered politics at WIS for many years.

In that role, Stanton has moderated dozens of political debates, and we’ve always been incredibly impressed by his objectivity, thoughtfulness and professionalism.

David is a solid newsman, and we have no doubt he’ll land on his feet.

TRIBUNE BANKRUPT

Did we mention in our Rod Blagojevich coverage today that the Chicago Tribune’s parent company filed for bankruptcy yesterday?

If not, we’ll mention it now: The Chicago Tribune’s parent company filed for bankruptcy yesterday.

Seriously, how’s that for timing? They just broke one of the biggest stories in their paper’s history and now they’re going under.

Oh well, the good thing about bankruptcy is that unlike bailouts, things at these companies actually get valued and sold for what they’re worth in the private sector instead of the taxpayers paying some artificially-inflated price.

Hey, CBC — I like it…but you COULD spice up the piano industry article for ADD-addled readers, who have the attention spans of toddlers — which may be why I forgot to read the article. Though I’m sure it was quite interesting. But this seemed more interesting at that particular nanosecond you had to grab my interest:

Hey — I think that’s my brother-in-laws house @ NO MORE DAMN PAPERS (please).

He’s an aggressive-passive history prof in TX. That is exactly how he would notify of subscription cancellation. Most Effective!

Cotton Boll Conspiracy may be a TF@TP production. Just a wild guess.
