“New” Carolina: What A Bunch Of Commie Crap
If we had a nickel for every time Darla Moore said that South Carolina needs to expand government, then we might have as much money as Darla Moore …
Or … we would at least have as much money as South Carolina has blown following Moore’s big government advice over the last four years, only to watch our state’s ass-backwardness accelerate.
Of course if we had all that money, it would mean we could shell out God knows how many hundreds of thousands of dollars to produce a bunch of slick PR materials (not to mention the gayest video ever) to gloss over our meaningless feelgood drivel and convince people that all the same B.S. that hasn’t worked can in fact be resold in a new package.
Like this God awful status quo manifesto …
We, the tenacious people of New Carolina, declare independence from mediocrity. We will reach beyond past mistakes and build on historic successes toward a bright future that lifts our families, our schools, our businesses. From this day forward, we will demonstrate a new will and forge a new way. With tireless passion, bold leadership and decisive action, we will silence the nay-sayers, the doubters, the cynics. We will encourage the innovators and teachers, and celebrate the courageous. In doing so, we will become a leader in public education, entrepreneurial success, personal income and quality of life. Each day we will reach for, and push each other, until one day the world will acknowledge us as “The New Land of Opportunity.” New energy. New ideas. New action. New Jobs.
Seriously, people. Pull your heads out of the toilet. It’s over …
Anyway, they can wrap up this shiny happy hippie junk in whatever “new sunrise” package they want, but it doesn’t change the fact that this is the same old tired commie bullsh*t that Moore and her “public-private” Palmetto Institute Bolsheviks have been regurgitating (all over us) for years.
In fact, you’ll notice that dim bulbs behind this report are also behind the pyramids, pillars and pipelines of our state’s taxpayer-funded Ponzi Scheme.
Which is why Moore’s plan to make South … sorry, “New” Carolina … the “New Land of Opportunity” is not surprisingly centered around spending more taxpayer money on our failed public schools, more taxpayer money on our bloated and inefficient higher ed system, more taxpayer money on “distressed areas” of the state and more taxpayer money on new government programs.
Which may or may not be “shiny.”
Of course, if you’re looking for government efficiency and accountability, spending caps and tax cuts, or market-based education reforms, this is clearly not the report for you.
And while we its pages certainly pay lip service to “increasing support for start-ups and local firms,” we’d like to remind you that Moore’s buddies at the South Carolina Research Authority (who are featured prominently in that section of this report), just ripped off $8 million that was supposed to go to local start-ups so that they could free it up for the state’s research universities.
Which we would say is a very curious definition of “support.”
Anyway, since we’re obviously “nay-sayers” as far as this bogus report is concerned, and “doubters” as it relates to all of its command economic strategeries, we’re guessing that Moore and her Kommie Granola Buddies (KGB) over at the Palmetto Institute will now, as promised, set out to “silence” us.
Isn’t that what they said? “We will silence the nay-sayers, the doubters, the cynics?”
Well, they’re too late … because we’ve already nailed our 95 Theses to the door, people. And just like Martin Luther we’re all about spreading the word.
A “New Carolina” may one day rise, but it certainly won’t until policymakers put down whatever it is these crackpots are smoking …
We’ve tried all this left-leaning crap before and guess what … it didn’t work.
Now it’s time to try something else …

I just found your blog after reading your Tweets. How did I miss something this awesome all this time. Seriously homie, you rule – you are a premier member of the Blogs Bill has to read every day (Big Deal, I know).
Anyway, keep up the great work. And as you can tell, I’m a fan of every post I’ve read but some are particularly kick a55 – this was one of them.

Right on brother…you are right on with this post.
This whole thing is nothing other than “money for the pointy headed upper class that can’t hold a job outside of the public sector”.
If the working people of this state knew how much money was lathered on lazy, boorish, and downright bitchy people of higher ed…they would march on the state house.
By Silence the Noise on December 6th, 2008 at 9:20 am
Fits….you’re not the only “nay-sayer”…..I hear some prominent lawmakers….and law enforcement officials….are taking a “nay sayer” approach to this boondoggle approach to stealing taxpayer money.
Hey….if you cant make money on your own as a business….you can always just steal it from the taxpayers by calling your organization an “economic development” firm.

We will “rise as one”! Seriously though, how many times in this document can you find the words “personal taxes,” “corporate tax rates,” “good regulatory climate,” or “cut the red tape”? That’s the real problem we have in South Carolina- we’re at a competitive disadvantage with other states. Why would you want to start or move a business here when you could instantly make 5-10% more profit by locating in Georgia or North Carolina?
You’re going to say many businesses are homegrown here in South Carolina. However, wouldn’t it be easier for those homegrown businesses to compete and survive in the global economy if our business climate more closely matched that of other states?
Instead, this “manifesto” continually mentions “meetings,” “conferences,” “strategic plans,” “studes”, “reports,” blah blah blah. They’re simply rearranging the deck chairs on our sinking economy and the legislature is happy to help.

WTF? Wowza that video was creepy as hell. Wouldn’t call it the “gayest ever”… Way weirder and distopian than that.
What’s with the kids with drums?? Seemed very Beijing opening ceremonies to me. And the new flag?
I am seriously taken aback that a “public-private” organization / puppet government / rebel-alliance / whatever the hell New Carolina is would use that as their promotional video.
I don’t want to join the “movement” or “cluster” with any of these people. I’m unnerved.

I refuse to watch their video…but that is some PRIMO dinner party tuneage today — totally apropos for the upper crusties under that beckoning exit sign.

Ol’ Cooter B ‘as gots a betta version of dat Communistic propaghandi declarashun:
We, the tenacious people of Ol’ Caroline, declare independence from Yankee Mercantilism an’ Scalawag big-government. We will reach beyond past mistakes, especially the mistake of believing that these Utopian do-gooders have anything but their own enrichment in mind when they come South to sell their wooden nutmegs. Further, we will build on our historic successes, which have been steadily eroded since Reconstruction, and move confidently toward a bright future that FREES our families, our schools, our businesses from government and big business tyranny. From this day forward, we will demonstrate our old time grit and reverence the old time ways as we move boldly to create a brighter future for our youngins. With tireless passion, bold leadership and decisive action, we will welcome the criticism of foreign, Yankee nay-sayers, doubters, and cynics. We will encourage our own innovators and free our teacher from government departments of education who as grown fat on the scraps from their Master’s table. We will celebrate the courage and determination of our ancestors and teach or children to never give up the fight for social and political independence and self-sufficiency. We will become a leader in public education by taking it away from bureaucrats and empowering the parents to chose the best school for their own offspring and build a quality of life that is not dependent on being rich or poor. Each day we will seek to find our own way, and allow others to do the same, pushing no one, until one day the world will acknowledge us as a ‘Land of Liberty, Opportunity, and Personal Freedom’

Re. the video, I can’t stop repeating the name “Goebbels”…I remember one of his titles was “Minister of Public Enlightenment”.
And is that Joan Brady with Darla? I wasn’t sure which face she was wearing that night. Birds of a Feather…?
By Reader on December 6th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
Rearrange all that make-up on The Brady Sister — she could be anyone you ‘want’ her to be……………….

Thanks Will,
Great story and so true!!
By friend of Cooter Brown on December 7th, 2008 at 11:59 am
yes, that’s Joan “The Dragon Lady” Brady. Is there anything in her voting record that is different from Gilda Cobb-Hunter’s?
By Tim on December 7th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
That video is so inspiring. It’s the young people who will fix the problems of our conflicted past. If we don’t give them the tools it takes, it’s their future at stake. I just hope everyone realizes how important these kinds of decisions are.
…I mean, really… Is there really anyone left who gets inspired with bullsh*t like that? I think most people realize that we live in a world of 1984-ish market propaganda. The video probably doesn’t even drive anyone off of their socialist scent. It’s just the “South Carolina Council for Competitiveness’s” way of public masterbation—so they can feel good by themselves.

Darla is successful. sic(k) willie is a convicted felon.
Darla has brazillions of bucks. sic(k) willie is not worth a flock.
That about clears things up.
Comment, sic(k) willie?

One should go back to when ms Darla Moore had her brilliant idea for Corporations to file Chapter 11 with the DIP FINANACING!
Just go look at the cover of Fortune Magazine when they dubbed he QUEEN OF BANKRUPTCY”
Maybe, the NEW Carolina can find a new dubb for.
Also, look at the Healthcare System that her and her husband Richard have done with their ponzi schemes in that arena.
Just take a look at the LARGEST PRIVATE FRAUD CASE iin our country;s history taking place in Columbus Ohio with the National Century Financial Enterprises Inc. See if you can connect the dots to Darla and Richard. !
let me know if you need assistance…This week and for the rest of this month in December, James K happ, the last executive to go to trial in this case. Ask yourself, why is he last? Who is James K Happ? Where did he come from prior to arriving at NCFE ? He was a CFO at Richard Rainwater’s connection to HCA , Columbia Homecare Group based out of Ft Worth, Texas!!! Guess what he did at HCA Columbia Homecare Group? He assisted with the divestiture of the LOSING ASSETS, HOMEHEALTHCARE , and dumped it into a ‘private’ company that filed bankruptcy months after the alledged purchase. But,,,guess who FINANCED the sale (Divestiture) ….NCFE!!!!!
I think they used Darla’s genius creation DIP FINANCE!!
What a WOMAN!!!
YEE HA!
