Preview: Tim Scott’s “Native Dance”
It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes we get fooled by people.
Take newly-elected Charleston Rep. Tim Scott, who made history earlier this year by becoming the first black Republican to be elected in South Carolina since Reconstruction.
Having aggressively supported Tim’s “Taxpayers’ First” campaign, we were impressed by his strong commitment to fiscal conservatism – as well as his equally strong condemnation of our state’s failed status quo.
Just last week, in fact, our founding editor praised Scott effusively in this video.
In addition to his impeccable fiscal conservative credentials, our own Sic Willie said that Tim would “bring a conscience to what goes on at (the) State House … which is sadly something that you don’t see a lot of in Columbia.â€
And then there’s Tim’s own promise to “stand with Governor Sanford (in) his fight to streamline government while making it more responsive to the voters,” which comes straight from his campaign website.
Well, Tim Scott has made history again, people – except not in a good way.
He has officially set the new land speed record for “going native,” the process by which politicians who campaign on fighting the establishment ultimately join it.
Except it Scott’s case, there’s no “ultimately” about it. He went native so fast it’s deserving of its own anthropological study … which of course we plan on conducting.
Accordingly, we’ll have the inside story on Scott and the rest of his Freshman Caucus in this weekend’s Echo Chamber, but needless to say most of the newly-elected “conservatives” in the S.C. House got off on the wrong foot.
Stay tuned …

No racism there.

Will Folks is now becoming a racist as well as sexist pig. This is the most racist thing I have ever seen and you should be ashamed. Only a sic(KKK) person would put this up.
Tim Scott is not even in the House for 24 hours and ALREADY SIC TURNS ON HIM.
Listen all you young members he will TURN ON YOU TOO.
Bobby will always stand with you and make sure that you get everything you need. All you have to do is ask him and he will be there for you. This is what you will get from Bobby but BACKSTABS are all that you will ever get from Sic(KKK).
You cannot trust Will Folks. Do not listen to his feeble lies and attacks any more.

Could we please put one false statement, which continues to pop up periodically in many different news accounts, to rest? State Representative Tim Scott was not “the first black Republican to be elected in SC since Reconstruction.” Contrary to popular belief (and newspaper accounts) black South Carolinians did not disappear from the SC legislature when Reconstruction ended in 1877 . For the next quarter of a century, a total of twenty-seven different black Republicans (along with fourteen black Democrats) served in the House at one time or another. The distinction of being the last prior to Mr. Scott was Representative J. W. Bolts from Georgetown County, who left office in 1902. That certainly does not diminish Mr. Scott’s accomplishment, but I’m sure you would agree that accuracy adds credibility to any account.

The picture is a reference to “going native,” and would have been used whether or not the subject of the article was black, white, purple, red, yellow, green or our personal favorite, “Cornflower.”
In fact, you can pick any one of the Crayola 64 colors and we would have still used that picture.
You people seriously need to get over yourselves. Racism is treating people differently b/c of the color of their skin, and we treated (and will continue to treat) Tim Scott no differently than any other politician in Columbia.

not racist.
Anyway, Sic I look forward to reading more about this. whatever the guy did, it must have been bad to get your panties in a wad after you practically gave the guy a BJ in that video.
Disappointing nonetheless, it’s nice to see the republicans have some diversity among their ranks, disappointing though if it turns out he’s just another good ol’ boy…

Kind of a feeble attempt at damage control FITS. How laughable is the “floundering editor’s” admitting to believing a politician’s campaign promise?

I guess Tim didn’t pay his “bill” to ViewPolitik, LLC.

This is really simple people. Tim Scott crowed about being for the regular people before he was elected. The first thing he does when elected is fight to keep our elected officials’ votes hidden from the people who elected him.
You can call it being two-faced, or going native, or selling out, or setting the world’s speed record for transforming into a RHINO, or simply lying to get elected- but whatever you call it, it is not a quality we voters want in an elected official.
I am sure there is no doubt that Harrell will now protect Tim Scott and have his minions out calling people names(like calling Sic Willie a racist) who are disappointed and feel betrayed.

Donnie,
We got a commitment to the truth and are just keeping it real, that’s all.

what is that sucking sound coming from the Gov.Mansion

I’m dying to know what he did that was so awful…”Sic of the status quo” says he voted to hide votes from the people. If he’s talking about about the rule change vote, Tim voted the same way Haley and Ballentine voted….give the guy a freakin’ chance…the session hasn’t even started yet and you’re tearing him down. Ever hear of making good the enemy of perfect?

A good southern house would never be without one and now Harrell’s “house” has his very own house negro.

People, People…
This is an awesome take on the deal — and with Barack Obama as our President, we are going to HAVE TO QUIT BEING SO FREAKING SENSITIVE. As I think he has.
IT’S A HUMOROUS PHOTO.
Would an American Indian go ‘all native’ over a picture of a peace pipe? Or the Indian crying about the garbage (FAMOUS anti-litter ad, 1970’s) ??????????
If so, we are all a pathetic bunch.

Will,
I warned everyone that Scott is no conservative as evidenced by his record on Charleston County Council. Very few listened. Oh well!

Will… it’s 6:15pm on Sunday night, and we’re still waiting on your post/preview of all the other freshman members. When are we going to see who these people are? When will we know stuff about them that we can criticize them about?
