The South Carolina House of Representatives doesn’t even gavel to order for another month, but the chamber is already in a full-scale meltdown over the issue of government transparency.

Despite a comprehensive transparency rules change drafted by State Rep. Nikki Haley, House Speaker Bobby Harrell chose instead to force a showdown on a so-called transparency package that even his own henchman agreed was utterly pointless.

“We’re already doing roll call voting on 99% of these things,” said State Rep. Brian White, who was sent to the podium by the Speaker to advance his proposal.
