We’re Ga Ga Over 24’s Return

After a nearly two-year hiatus, the legendary television show 24 returned last night.

Redemption, a TV movie intended as both a throwback to past seasons and a prelude to the next, definitely reminded viewers why they were so obsessed with the program to begin with.

The mile-a-minute, real-time show returns January 11 for a seventh season which – if the previews are any indication – promises to explosive.

Filled with rogue counter-terrorists and impending planetary doom, 24 has always faced criticism for its hawkish pro-American plots. (Why “hawkish pro-American” anything is bad, we’re not sure).

The storyline often pits Arab against American, with you-know-who as the perennial “bad guy.” In this way, 24’s detractors are right … at least in some dementedly liberal way.

Even so, those detractors should appreciate the politically correct silver lining to these “prejudiced” plots: Haven’t y’all heard? Unemployment’s up, up, up – especially for certain ethnic groups, who face hiring discrimination.

At least 24 provides work for these untouchables.

Anyway, Redemption set up a season rife with Jack Bauer, African genocide, turncoat treason, and the operatic return of a very important, very dead (or so we thought) character.

And if those aren’t reasons enough to reject the criticism and tune in, consider this other piece of PC pie: The show, clearly way ahead of the country, showcases the first female president.

By the way, if it seems like we’re taking it a bit far with the liberals-hate-24 slant … well, we might be.

We’re still pretty bitter that the writer-union-demons delayed our fix one whole year.
