http://www.thestate.com/local/story/531216.html

At least we know Dawson was a member of this Forest Lake Club (white-only) for 12 years but not anymore (just in time for running for RNC) before he gets elected.

That way we can claim pride in electing him despite his associations, not in ignorance of them.

That would be better than the post-nomination bombs shells we got on Palin right???

Is this really where we are going again Republican Party????

Let's move forward.

Katon Dawson - Biggest mistake the GOP could make next to the selection of John McCain as our nominee. Judging by the past decade or so.....and the performance of SC Republicans under Katon's rule....all bets are off as to how big a mistake the GOP executive committee is willing to make.

To all the Executive Committee members reading this website (which I find crazy) please do the right thing and leave Katon Dawson out of any position of power. He is the worst thing that we could have leading the party. Take a look at the SC Republican party......sure the Republicans are in power.....and if electing anyone with a "R" beside their name is your goal then Katon is your man......but if bringing principle back to the party then please pick someone else.

No offense but it's time to give someone else a chance.

The last thing the Republican party needs is a repeat of Iowa (I'll only vote for you if you support ethanol), New Hampshire (I'll only vote for you if you've had breakfast with me), and South Carolina (I'll only vote for you if you can thump a bible (preferably the King Jones version versus the Joseph Smith version) and whalla: the nominee is chosen before the states with the other 510 electoral have their say.

It's that hideous order that's led us to Bush Sr. , Dole, w, w, and McCant.

However, if you love that RINO lineup, Dawson is da man.

Here is my issue. Someone make the case for me about why Dawson deserves this post. SC is consistently Republican. I will give you that. BUT, does our state party have ANY unity? We may be a dominate force but our Republican elected officials in the state House and Senate fight amongst each other and are so divided that they may as well be representatives of two different parties. Further, Sanford sees eye to eye with hardly none of these representatives and we constantly have a stalement on state issues. Wouldn’t it make a better case for Dawson if our state party had unified goals for current officials and our future in the state? Shouldn’t he work to first get all Republicans on the same page here is SC before we jet him off to a national post? Just having people win with an (R) behind their name is no longer going to cut it. This next RNC chair is going to have to be a leader of substance who can redefine our national agenda and ideals and unite the party. Because I have not seen Dawson’s ability to do this on a state level, I am hard pressed to advocate him on a national level.

Anyone, please, tell me why I’m wrong.

Katon Dawson would make a fantastic National Chairman. I have worked with Katon for years and I know his character and his true conservative convictions.

I served as a county chairman during his tenure as state chairman and know how much he cares for the the party and our ideology. It's his job to get Republicans elected. He has done that. He has raised money, and has kept us on the political map.

If he wins, the next SCGOP Chairman has some large shoes to fill. Who can do it? I don't know. It will be interesting.
