The new James Bond movie Quantum of Something or The Other soared at North American box offices this weekend, earning $70.4 million in the U.S. and Canada on its opening three nights.

Globally, the thriller has already brought in $251.6 million, and has set weekend-opening box office records around the world for the 007 franchise.

The latest movie, which is actually called Quantum of Solace (whatever that means), is the second 007 flic to feature British actor Daniel Craig, who has infused the international man of mystery with some much needed bad-assness.

Seriously, people. Craig’s 007 has the potential to assume the No. 2 spot behind the legendary Sean Connery, easily displacing the forgettable pair of George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton as well as the campy condescension of Roger Moore and Pierce Brosnan.

We saw his first effort, Casino Royale, and couldn’t have been happier with his performance.

Incidentally, Quantum of Solace is the 22nd Bond movie. Over the past 46 years, those films have made mountains of money – $4.3 billion in all ($11.6 billion when you adjust for inflation).
