David Wilkins Is Pretty Funny

In light of the big government disaster that current Speaker of the House Bobby Harrell has inflicted on the state of South Carolina, we’re starting to realize that things might have not been so bad under former S.C. Speaker David Wilkins.

Seriously, people. We knew Bobby was going to move the legislature to the left, but we had no idea he was an aspiring Leonid Brezhnev.

Nor did we have any idea how corrupt, duplicitous and vindictive he was going to be, or how much he would hate on women – particularly conservative ones.

By contrast, Wilkins – the soon-to-be former U.S. Ambassador to Canada – never hated on women and actually got a lot of conservative reforms through the S.C. House, which in his absence has turned into a friggin’ graveyard for anything that might actually help move this state forward.

For whatever reason, we’ve always been at loggerheads with Wilkins (we think Sic is just jealous of his, um, “you know”), but we gotta give credit where credit is due. And not just because the guy is hung like Secretariat.

Take Wilkins’ recent interview with Canadian funny man Rick Mercer, which we gotta admit is funny as hell.

Wilkins starts off like he’s going to be annoying and crusty in the video (perhaps by design), but he gradually warms up and by the time the six-minute clip ends we were genuinely impressed with how cool he is.

Needless to say, we won’t be getting an invitation to Wilkins’ palatial Ottawa residence prior to Barack Obama appointing some hippie to take his place as Ambassador (well, unless it involves our founding editor’s body disappearing beneath the sub-arctic tundra), but we’re big enough girls to admit when we were wrong about somebody.

Or at least incredibly right about the socialist who stepped into his shoes.
