Scarborough Files Election Protest

Defeated S.C. Representative Wallace Scarborough filed a formal election protest this morning in his Lowcountry State House race, throwing into doubt the outcome of a close, contentious contest that has sent seismic shock waves across the South Carolina political landscape.

Scarborough alleged voting irregularities shortly after falling by 205 votes to Democrat Anne Peterson-Hutto in last week’s race for House District 115, but declined to elaborate on those irregularities.

In today’s protest, however, Scarborough’s attorneys argue that the election results should be tossed, saying that “more than 700 illegal votes were cast” in the election.

Scarborough’s protest also demands that the State Election Commission “order and authorize a new and special general election.”

Marci Andino, the executive director of the Election Commission couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

“Sometimes people are sore losers and can’t admit defeat,” said Hutto advisor Lachlan McIntosh. “That’s sad but it’s true.”

“Ann Hutto has won,” McIntosh added. “She’s been certified by the county, she’s been certified by the state – she’s a Representative and she’s going to Columbia to get done what Wallace Scarborough couldn’t get done, which is why he lost this election.”

He’s such a good ol’ boy. Out with the old and in with the new please. Let me guess he’s also going to hold a special Citadel caucus to air his grievances…

This one will probably get pretty far considering the complaint is filed by a recent member, if not chairman, of the SC Election Commission. Not a technical conflict of interest, but damn.

Anne Hutto is kind-of hot I think. We could stand to have her around the State House. Especially since smoking hot Mandy Norrell lost her race. Who cares what their party is especially since most of the Repubs at the Statehouse are RINO’s anyway.

I would go on and on about chickens coming home to roost but I can’t discuss it until my Kevlar vest comes in…whether I am an SCE&G employee or not.

Let’s hope it’s not Lynn Seithel II.

I have been involved in an election protest before. On the surface, this looks like Wallace Scarborough may have a point. All he has to do is convince that the election commission that he has 212 illegal votes that were cast. It is highly unlikely that 212 people all voted for his opponent, but there is no way to tell who the “illegal” voters voted for. Therefore, he has a right to call for a new election. If the election commission agrees that there are enough ballots cast that could have changed the election, they will call for a special election.

Not sure how many real “dems” voted in the election, but if a new election is called, Scarborough would win and probably win big. There is no way Obama supporters will come out and vote if their man is not on the ballot.

I have no idea who Wallace Scarborough is, but if he is a rino, then we Republicans have lost nothing. If he is a rino, i hope he loses, he deserves it.

McIntosh,

This election has been a shocker!!! The GOP is in shatters and they have decided to look to the past to find the solution. The Republican Party has the answer to McIntosh and his antics. It will be coming soon to challange him in the next round of elections. I hope he enjoys himself now because a ghost from the past is coming back into the GOP fold to right the ship and bring order back to the Low Country politics. For every ying there is a yang and its coming.

This man should give it up.

For one thing, what a guy. He sent out a flier that said “We used to call them Bank Robbers but now we call them Trial Lawyers.” He attacked Anne Hutto again and again for being a lawyer. Excuse, me, I thought lawyers mostly defend people’s rights. (See next paragaph!) Sure, there are some exceptions, but no one ever showed anything to indicate that Hutto was one of the bad ones. She sure does not look like a bad person. Not much of a gauge, I admit, but hey. I don’t think I have ever seen her climbing a building with a check in her hand on TV.

But looky looky, who did Mr. Scarborough, the lawyer hater, get to represent him in his Protest? One of the biggest firms of lawyers in the state. He should “man up” and do it without lawyers if he thinks that lawyers are so bad. Be consistent, man. That’s what lost him the election to begin with, you think?

Swamp Fox – I’m afraid to know who you’re talking about … or what you’re smoking.
