Student Auctions Virginity

Natalie Dylan, 22-year old wannabe grad student, is auctioning her virginity. So far bidding has skyrocketed all the way to $3.8 million, which is one expensive hymen … and this is in a bad economy, people.

Anyway, Dylan’s reason for the auction? To fund her master’s degree in women’s studies. That’s right, she’s a feminist, as she explains in an interview on the Tyra Banks show …

We wanted to study the dichotomous nature between virginity and prostitution. There’s really been so few case studies of it…I stumbled upon this article of a Peruvian woman who wanted to sell her virginity and she was offered an exorbitant amount of cash.

So that the arrangement is completely legal, she’s hired as her auctioneer (pimp?) the owner of Nevada’s Moonlight Bunny Ranch brothel – which is where it will all go down (ha!).

Of course, it won’t be celebratory champagne corks popping but cherries instead.

We don’t know whether to be turned on or turned off by Dylan’s proposition…although our founding editor is decidedly turned on.

On one hand, feminism is supposed to be about fighting against chauvinistic exploitation and objectification of women and their bodies. On the other hand … money.

Apparently it’s not objectification or exploitation if you’re profiting … which, come to think of it, makes the FITS girls feel a bit better about our own job arrangement.

Morality aside, all it is is trading money for services and labor. Paying a person to paint your house is trading money for services and labor. Paying a person to make a widget is trading money for labor. No difference.

Even if one claims that the sex trade deals in hazardous materials like other trades, then do like those other trades and require training on and require the use of safety equipment (condoms, baby wipes, a second set of keys, etc).

In this case, is there any kind of documentation or guarantee that she is and will still be a virgin at the time the deal is consummated? I’d hate to pay $3.8 million and discover that the goods are ..um.. pre-owned.
