Donkey Uprising?
Walking on air?
Not yet, but South Carolina Democrats are certainly feeling good about their chances to pick up several seats in the state legislature.
That’s not surprising considering reports which continue to pour in from all over the state saying that Democratic turnout this year is vastly exceeding expectations.
Specifically, sources in Spartanburg, S.C. say that Democratic turnout is through the roof in that part of the state, with Districts 32 and 37, in particular, looking like they may slip from Republican hands.
All told, as many as a dozen GOP House seats could be in real danger, which is more than enough to flip the balance of power in the S.C. House of Representatives to the Dems if they all were to “break blue.”
We spoke with S.C. Democratic operative Lachlan McIntosh - one of the party’s top young consultants - about that prospect, and while he wasn’t ready to predict a Democratic Majority in Columbia, he did say “I think (Democrats) are definitely going to pick up seats today.”
“Democratic turnout appears to be higher than we have ever seen it in South Carolina,” McIntosh told us. “When that happens you have to throw all the polls out the window.”
