Bingham Next SC Majority Leader
Lexington Republican Kenny Bingham is the next Majority Leader of the S.C. House of Representatives, sources tell FITS.
Bingham’s two primary challengers for the position – Greenwood’s Mike Pitts and Myrtle Beach’s Alan Clemmons – have both dropped out of the race, meaning Bingham will be unopposed when Republicans meet to select their new Caucus leader.
Now the only question is how long Bingham will stay in the role, given that there’s an opening for House Ways & Means Chairman looming on the horizon – a job for which he is also widely-regarded as the frontrunner.
We’ll have an analysis of Bingham’s ascent – and what the future holds for current majority leader Jimmy Merrill – coming up later in the week.
For now, though, congrats to Kenny on his victory …

Kenny is a good choice, but Sic One you must realize that his ascension is due only to the fact that he laughs at all of the Speaker’s jokes. If Bobby gets booted as Speaker then out Kenny goes with the bath water.Your proverbial knife will cut both ways.

Wow, 7 years in office…Majority leader and Ways & Means…..what a coup. I’ll bet there will be some hard feelings umong those who have put in more time. I guess seniority doesn’t mean anything anymore.

Kenny is a great guy but this is the only place that ever mentions him as a contender for Chairman. He doesn’t chair a subcommittee and has the lowest seniority of anyone on the committee. The race for Chairman is between Brian White (Copper’s guy) and Tracy Edge. Being the leader for several conservative issues like school choice and property rights may hurt him (Edge)though.
