A circuit court judge in Spartanburg, S.C. has issued an order blocking defeated State Rep. Bob Walker from attempting to reclaim his House seat, the latest twist in what is becoming one of the strangest local elections we’ve ever seen.
Walker – a pro-union RINO and staunch ally of Democrat Superintendent of Education Jim Rex – was narrowly defeated by Republican Joey Millwood in a GOP primary election this June.
Yet instead of “going gently into that good night” after voters showed him the door, Walker appears to be working diligently with his allies on the far left to encourage voters to write his name in on the Nov. 4 ballot.
There’s just one problem with that … Walker is expressly prohibited from campaigning in this election under the state’s “sore loser” law.
Not surprisingly, however, affidavits filed with Judge Roger Couch link Walker to a new ultra-liberal front group, “Citizens For A Better Spartanburg County,” which has spent thousands of dollars on mailings, e-mails and phone calls supporting Walker, attacking Milwood and showing residents how to write Walker’s name in on the ballot.
In one affidavit, a representative of “Citizens For A Better Spartanburg County” allegedly admits that Walker himself is funding the group’s activities.
That was enough for Judge Couch to issue the following order yesterday:
Defendant, Robert E. ‘Bob’ Walker is hereby ordered, to refrain from offering or campaigning in the ensuing (2008) general election for election to this office (House District 38) or any other office for which a nominee has been elected in the party primary election.
Look, anyone who thinks that Walker isn’t pushing this “write-in” campaign with every fiber of his being is crazy.
Desperate to hang onto his House Education Committee Chairmanship, Walker has shown his true liberal colors in this sour grapes campaign, affirming what we’ve been saying about him all along.
Spartanburg’s mainstream media may not get that, but we do.
And hopefully, so will the voters of Spartanburg County.
