The South Carolina Senate is going to be a vastly different place next year, as several fiscal conservatives have already won key primary battles and several more are poised to win against Democratic opponents on Nov. 4.
With a little luck, taxpayer advocates might even pick up enough seats in the Senate to sustain a few fiscally-conservative gubernatorial vetoes.
Greenwood Republican Dee Compton is one such fiscal conservative who currently stands at the brink of victory in a district Democrats have held for the past forty years – no small feat given the current anti-Republican wave sweeping across much of the nation.
Compton has made his race competitive by focusing on bread-and-butter issues like taxes and spending, arguing very simply that both should be lower.
Based on our state’s track record, that’s been a compelling argument.
Predictably, Compton has been subjected to the same cookie-cutter left-wing attacks from big government backers who are desperate to hold onto their majority in the Senate.
And predictably, these attacks have grown increasingly personal as Compton has risen in the polls.
Voters in Abbeville, Greenwood and Laurens County should ignore those attacks.
Why? Because they have suffered disproportionately as a result of the failed policies of South Carolina’s wasteful, corrupt and ineffective status quo.
Electing Dee Compton would be a sign that they are ready for common sense change, not more of the same.
