Rain Wins Game 5
The fifth game of the 2008 World Series was suspended indefinitely last night in the middle of the sixth inning, a controversial decision that left fans in Philadelphia wet, disappointed and (still) longing for their first championship since the Carter administration.
Up three games to one over the upstart Tampa Bay Rays, the decision to suspend Game 5 with the score tied 2-2 hurts Philadelphia – which had ace Cole Hamels on the mound … as in the real Cole Hamels, not our founding editor’s bobblehead.
Also, with baseball’s TV ratings already struggling this year, the indefinite suspension was not what the doctor ordered … well, unless his name is “Kevorkian.”
And what’s with cancelling over a little rain? Didn’t they play ball through a swarm of locusts during last year’s American League Divisional battle?
