Meet Somer

In the interest of full disclosure, our founding editor has a serious freckle fetish. Like, “real serious,” people.

So what happens when you sprinkle freckles on an already beautiful, brainy and bad ass political operative – one who just happens to be a single?

Yeah, it’s a recipe for trouble.

Anyway, such is Sic Willie’s ongoing obsession with Somer Grasser, one of the up-and-coming young starlets of the South Carolina – and for the moment, North Carolina – Republican Party.

A grassroots genius, creative strategist, new media diva and campaign manager extraordinaire, Grasser has been at the helm of several recent GOP election wins, including Lee Bright’s hard-fought victory over S.C. Rep. Scott Talley in one of South Carolina’s most expensive, highest-profile State Senate races ever.

“Somer was reliable in all the clutch situations,” Bright says of his campaign manager. “She is one of those people who you could always depend on and who was never intimidated.”

True that … having spoke with Grasser a few times during our coverage of that campaign, let’s just a “lack of intimidation” is putting it nicely.

Home girl flat out spits nails, people, and God forbid you get on her bad side.

“Somer is a highly motivated, passionate person, well respected amongst her peers and politicos, very trustworthy,” says S.C. Rep. Eric Bedingfield, whose victorious campaign for the State House was also managed by Grasser. “She’s someone you want working for you, not against you.”

Boasting experience on multiple local races as well as two different presidential campaigns, Grasser’s initial focus was on grassroots efforts, or “on-the-ground” activities like volunteer coordination, voter identification and other “turnout-related” tasks.

Lately, however, she’s impressed us by branching out from that role and proving herself to be a strong media communicator and campaign manager/ strategist.

“Somer puts an tremendous amount of energy into her campaigns,” says fellow rising GOP star (and political babe) Nicole Cobb. “We?re fortunate she?s working on our side of the aisle.”

Somer plans on returning to South Carolina following the 2008 presidential election, where we have no doubt she’ll continue working her way up the state’s political ladder.

That’s my best friend! Somer is the greatest mentor a girl could ask for. Without her, I wouldn’t have the passion for politics that I now possess.

Good article which speaks volumes from those who know, respect and love you. Keep up the hard work and you will leave your envious competition behind. Encourage others and remember you learn by teaching. Stay focused, select conservative candidates, stay away from RINOs and you will accomplish more than you can imagine. There is a new movement on the harrison, position yourself to take a leading role. Never forget the power of prayer in both good and bad times. Disregard the demeaning comments, you are too good a person to be pulled down by trash. I’m proud of you.
