Conley For U.S. Senate

Believe it or not, there is actually a fiscal conservative running for the U.S. Senate this year – a guy who will represent South Carolina taxpayers instead of the “go-along-to-get-along” crowd in Washington, D.C.

His name is Bob Conley (a.k.a. “Flat Top Bob”), and if you’ve never heard of him before, that’s not your fault.

Unlike the $4 million special interest-fed war chest of “Republican” Senator Lindsey Graham, Conley’s campaign has raised next to no money.

Which means that unlike the super-slick, feel-good TV ads the Graham campaign has bombarded our airwaves with over the last week, Conley has been forced to rely on good ole’ fashioned stump speeches, word-of-mouth and e-mail blasts to get his message out.

That’s too bad, because if the Democrats (that’s right, Conley is a Democrat) had dropped even half a million dollars into his race, South Carolina’s “senior Senator” could be in serious trouble right now.

As well he should be …

Graham, who made a name for himself railing against Bill Clinton during the 1998 impeachment drama, has been arguably the worst U.S. Senator in the history of this state, choosing time and again to sell South Carolina’s best interests down the river for the good of his liberal allies in Washington.

On tax policy, spending restraint, immigration … pretty much any issue you want to pick … Graham has turned his back on South Carolina taxpayers and voted instead with his “Gang of 14,” a group of K Street sycophants that love to talk about “bipartisanship,” but whose policies have materially weakened our economy and sent our federal deficits and national debt soaring over the last six years.

As if there was ever any doubt where he stood, Graham showed his true colors during the debate over the recent bailout boondoggle, going along with the socialist (and dare we say “failed”) market interventionism prescribed by President George W. Bush and Democratic Congressional leaders.

And not only that, Graham was backing the bailout long before so-called “free market concessions” were added to the plan in a calculated effort to lure “Republican votes.”

For a look at the difference in Graham and Sen. Jim DeMint’s approaches (and ultimately, their votes) on the recent bailout boondoggle, click here.

Graham is the worst sort of politician, a hackneyed bore who spouts trite, meaningless pablum while his colleague Sen. DeMint has done the heavy thinking (and heavy lifting) to protect South Carolina taxpayers from the barrage of big government that Washington continues to shove down our throats.

Plus, Graham prides himself on being a member of the “inner circle” of what will likely go down as the worst presidential campaign in our nation’s history.

For his part, Conley is unpolished, and certainly no match for Graham in his knowledge of Washington.

Plus his campaign is flat broke, and we have some legitimate questions about his support of the “Fair Tax.”

But in spite of all that, Conley is exactly the kind of person we need in our nation’s capital right now – a guy who isn’t going to whore himself out to the closest TV reporter, or jump on board the latest socialist craze, or tell the South Carolina taxpayers that they’re the ones who should pick up the tab for Washington’s increasingly expensive failure to govern its own insatiable, unsustainable appetites.

To put it simply, Conley’s one of us – whereas Lindsey Graham has demonstrated from the first day he was elected that he’s “one of them.”

Unlike Lindsey’s consistent record of service to self and caving to Washington special interests, South Carolinians have a rare opportunity to elect someone who isn’t afraid of anybody, isn’t going to be fooled by anybody and perhaps most importantly, isn’t owned by anybody.

And for the first time in a long time in this state, voters who classify themselves as Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Libertarians … you name it … all have a choice they can be happy with.

We strongly encourage all of them (and all of you) to vote for Bob Conley on November 4.

Wow…You trying to bat an even 0.0 on the ol’ endorsements this year Willie? You might as well endorse the Lex 5 bond referendum and get it over with.

Mr. Folks – you may win your soul back yet….

I’d love to see the look on lindsey’s face when she wakes up next Wednesday and realizes she is unemployed!

Bet there won’t be too many talk shows calling to have an unemployed senator on their roundtable…

Bob simultaneously represents South Carolina’s conservatives and liberals alike. In other words, he represents South Carolina’s diversity without forsaking her principles.
He’s called conservative because of his Jeffersonian philosophy, but he fully represents the founding cause and the classical liberal approach to economics.
He’s truly the best choice for anyone of any party. He just so happens to be in the party of Jefferson.

To the author of this article….Have you donated to Conley’s campaign? I have…and I am not from South Carolina

Wow – endorsing a candidate that isn’t paying you to do it.

GrahamNesty is right.

One night, you’ll be walking down a quiet street and suddenly, the click and rolling of the Death Machine. Maybe it’s just your foot, maybe your leg, you’ll never know. Be careful, Will, be very careful.

I have voted Republican all my life, but not this year. Sen. Graham has lost my vote for many reasons. He is a self serving chopped off RINO. How the voters of this great state vote for him is mind blowing. Send him packing next week!

I haven’t voted for a Democrat since I was a “save the world” 19 year old in 1976. But, I will vote for Conley and Ketner. I want to puke every time I think of it, but I’m going to do it.

By rick on October 27th, 2008 at 2:50 pm

Don’t puke….be proud….vote for the candidate that most accurately reflects your values. The parties have left us far behind in their headlong rush to be the other….at least “flat top Bob” has the values we’re looking for. Now the question ” does he have the balls to stand up to Nancy/Harry”?

The FairTax is a plan who’s time has come. I am a republican and feel a bit nervous about it, but I have pledged to help ANY fairtax candidate in a race. We can sort the social issues out later. This is too important. Read about the FairTax at FAIRTAX.ORG. GO CONLEY!

Will somebody help pull the Lindsey Graham knives out of my back? I feel like a pin cushion except that some of the wounds may be fatal.

Graham has spent $305 million of OUR taxpayer money in earmarks for SC businesses and special interests in the last fiscal year alone! That amounts to taxpayer financing of his campaign. No wonder he doesn’t do any heavy lifting during this election. He doesn’t think he has to! He’s just buying his way back to the U.S. Senate WITH OUR MONEY!

I voted for that narcissistic monsterette, Lindsey Graham back in ‘02 and have been stabbed in the back ever since. “Corporate whore” doesn’t even begin to describe what this fascist is up to.

Mark my words, Googly Eyes is already running for President himself. If we don’t take him down now, he’ll never quit and, as far as he’s concerned, the citizens of South Carolina be d—-d! He’ll be another McCain–eternally campaigning for President at OUR expense.

By John Steinberger on October 31st, 2008 at 12:39 pm

Sic Willie – if you have an objection to FairTax, please articulate it. FairTax is the real economic stimulus package America needs. There is an estimated $13 Trillion in U.S. investment parked overseas to escape our IRS tax code. FairTax would put that money into our stock market and bring our 401-k’s, IRS’s and pension funds back into growth-generators.

In the words of our Convervative Senator Jim DeMint, FairTax will “make America the best place in the world to do business.

I encourage all readers of this blog to go on http://www.scfairtax.org and join the effort to replace our IRS tax code!

No, DeMint isn’t conservative. Vote for Bob, though. He ran as a Dem to try to fool the DNC, but Chuck Schumer wouldn’t give us (that is, Bob), a dime. Just googling Bob was enough to do him in with Schumer. So, no need to hold your nose while voting for Bob—unless your talking about his disgusting Skoal or same 3 1/2 pairs of tighty whiteys that he’s been wearing for the last 6 years since he moved into his mother’s basement. Talk about an underfuneded campaign. Who wouldn’t love such a suck-ass schlub like this loser? There’s never been a more pissed off conservative candidate.
btw, if you live in Cayce SC, vote for my friend Paul Graham for City Council. Also a hardright busting-his-back hard-working man (and libertarian).
