McCain Hires Tompkins

John McCain has hired race-baiting, RINO political consultant Warren Tompkins to “assess” his electoral prospects in North Carolina, a state that is openly flirting with going Democratic in a presidential election for the first time in a generation.

According to ABC News, Tompkins will be tasked with “surveying North Carolina for the McCain campaign to determine what can be done to shore up the state,” although McCain advisors stressed that the legendary GOP sleaze merchant has “on official role” with the campaign.

McCain has criticized the North Carolina GOP in the past for ads targeting Barack Obama’s connection to the Rev. Hate (i.e. Jeremiah Wright), so it’s unclear how free a hand Tompkins will have in doing what he does best – stoking racial fear among white evangelicals.

If history is any indication, however, Tompkins’ “assessment” will likely involve the same sort of shady tactics that his goons employed against McCain in 2000, tactics many attribute to his defeat that year at the hands of George W. Bush in the South Carolina GOP presidential primary.

Tompkins tried the same tactics two years later against Republican Gov. Mark Sanford, but was unsuccessful.

Of particular interest is how Tompkins’ hiring will be received by Cindy McCain, who bore the brunt of the malicious whispering campaigns Tompkins and his associates devised to blunt McCain’s momentum back in 2000.
