Light-Skinned Black People Gotta Stick Together
We’re not going to begrudge Colin Powell for his endorsement of Barack Obama. After all, it’s a (light-skinned) black thing – and as we’ve been told by many black people many times in the past, we “wouldn’t understand.”
All kidding aside, though, we’ve expressed our electoral indifference to “McBama” (a.k.a. Republicrat John McCain and “Spread the Wealth” party nominee Barack Obama) countless times by now.
Like dozens of their predecessors – both of these major party candidates are promoting images of themselves as “change agents” and “mavericks,” despite the fact that such rhetorical positioning runs counter to their shared record of support for Washington’s failed status quo.
So the fact that Powell wishes to lend his “gravitas” to Obama’s “transformative” campaign just isn’t that big of a deal to us.
Po(tey)to, po(tah)to, people.
Where we think Powell has gone absolutely crazy, however, is his assertion that the Republican party has “moved more to the right than I would like to see it.”
Wait, is it “Bizarro Day?”
Aside from the fact that there are plenty of white people and black people who would disagree with such a ridiculous statement, we’re not surprised that Powell feels that way – or at least probably had some talking points prepared for his Meet the Press interview this morning which suggested it might be a good idea for him to feel that way.
After all, this is the same guy who served as the chief character witness on behalf of indicted pork barrel spender Ted Stevens, who along with President Shrub is most responsible for the fiscal excesses that have Democrats poised to whoop some Republican ass at the polls … again.
But hey, Powell says Republicans have moved too far to the right. And people love them some Colin Powell.
In fact, they love him so much we had to resort to a controversial, attention-grabbing headline just to make our point about him.
Ordinarily, we’d say it was irresponsible for someone of Powell’s stature to say something so demonstrably untrue about the GOP, but let’s face it – there’s no use defending a party that doesn’t deserve to be defended.
Which is why we’re not going to join the angry Republican chorus denouncing Powell’s “betrayal.” How can we join a chorus that’s arguing vehemently against having done something when we believe that “something” (at least on fiscal issues) is precisely what it should have done?
What we are going to do, however, is turn our floor over once again to Eugene Robinson …
After eight years of the Bush administration, the Republican Party — to put it bluntly — is a mess and a fraud … when a political party reaches the point of lurching incoherence, the most effective cure is a good, long spell in the wilderness. Americans should help Republicans out by sending them home to get their act together.
Precisely.
Oh, and Robinson’s a light-skinned black guy, too … which means you can now disregard our controversial, attention-grabbing headline.

You think we’ll see Gen. Powell in an Obama cabinet? My eight ball is saying “signs point to yes”. Barack has made such a big deal about wanting to reach across lines to get the best on his team. I am sure we’ll be seeing Powell again, real soon. Great headline though…made me look.

Anybody listening to Powell and thinking about the words used, he’s just another voter of the “black like me” constituancy.

Irony defined: the former joints chief of staff who wouldn’t finish what was started in original Gulf War while there were PLENTY of boots on the ground (for fear of “inciting” the arab street) is now endorsing the man who also wants to leave unfinished business in Iraq.
The circle of life continues….

It is often a surprise for people to learn that, in reality, there
is actually No Such Thing As a “Light Skinned Black” person.
The term “Light Skinned Black” is really nothing more than a
racist oxymoron that was created by White Supremacists in an
effort to forcibly deny those Mixed-Race individuals, who are
of a Multi-Generational Multiracially-Mixed (MGM-Mixed)
Lineage, the right to fully embrace and to also received
public support in choosing to acknowledge the
truth regarding their full ancestral heritage.
The people who have been slapped with the false label and
oxymoronic misnomer of “Light Skinned Black” person are
simply Mixed-Race individuals — whose family have been
continually Mixed-Race throughout their multiple generations.

It should also be noted that no one is saying that having
a light skin complexion is the ‘only’ or even a ‘required’
proof of being of a continuously Mixed-Race lineage.
What is simply being said here is that it is just one
of the clearly-visible and openly undeniable forms
of proof that a person is of a Mixed-Race lineage.
