Only In South Carolina

South Carolina’s habit of making national news for incredibly awesome stuff continued once again this week as a Myrtle Beach man was arrested for leaving his infant child in the car while he got a lap dance in an all-nude strip club Wednesday night.

And amazingly, it wasn’t our founding editor … although it’s safe to say he’s no stranger to Derriere’s Gentleman’s Club.

Anyway, from the NY Daily News:

Maybe that family outing to Derriere’s Gentleman’s Club wasn’t such a great idea.

A South Carolina clan learned that hard lesson this week after cops busted a dad for leaving his sleeping 10-month-old daughter in a car while he delighted in a lap dance – and his stripper wife shook her stuff onstage.

Myrtle Beach police collared Geoffrey Hale on charges of unlawful conduct toward a child, accusing the 27-year-old handyman of shedding his fatherly duties in favor of a dancing lovely who shed her clothes while he puffed on a cigarette.

Hale was arrested Wednesday when cops received a call about a baby left unattended in a Lexus at Derriere’s, an all-nude flesh palace that bills itself as “unforgettable.”

Oh, and as if to remove all doubt that this is South Carolina we’re talking about, this guy left his car unlocked with the keys in it. Pretty smart for a place where they just had a shooting three nights earlier.

The good news, of course, is that this ten-month old tot is going to be one bad fothermucker, people. Seriously, she probably already cusses, has a tattoo and can drink your sorry ass under the table.

While Hale is perfect example of why some people should not be parents and should be punished to the fullest extent of the laws of South Carolina regarding neglect and unlawful conduct towards a child I think it’s unfair to say that this could only have happened in South Carolina. This sort of thing happens all over the world on a daily basis. Neglect is neglect regardless of what the person was doing during that neglect. The actions of this one man do not speak for those of us in South Carolina that are good and decent parents.
