Some days, the level of public service we provide to our readers isn’t always appreciated. In fact, some days we’re flat out scorned.
But today isn’t one of those days. Today we are a shining beacon of hope and inspiration to millions of women.
How come? Well, today is National Mammography Day, which is a big deal. Bigger than even porn star Kassandra’s 36DD breasts, amazingly.
According to the National Cancer Society, an estimated 182,460 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to strike U.S. women this year alone, with 40,480 of those cases resulting in death.
As much as we like to joke around about our commitment to breast cancer awareness (here, here and here, for example), those are sobering numbers.
Regular mammograms – along with doctor visits and self-exams – help detect breast cancer early, and women over 40 should have one every two years. Younger women should also have mammograms if they have a family history of cancer or other risk factors.
