The Other Republican Trial
Just as the Republican Party is on trial with the voters for blowing money that could have gone into our economy on a bunch of wasteful, deficit spending over the past eight years, the chief architect of all that fiscal recklessness (pictured, with Stupid) is on trial for his political life, too.
U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens – perhaps the biggest pork barreler in Washington’s long, pork-laden history – took the stand yesterday in his corruption trial up in Alaska and testified that he never intentionally falsified documents pertaining to $250,000 worth of gifts and home makeover work that he allegedly received from a political supporter.
Stevens will testify again today in this topsy-turvy legal drama, which amazingly is the first trial faced by a sitting U.S. Senator in nearly two decades.
Of course, whatever verdict Stevens ends up receiving will pale in comparison to the one Republicans received at the ballot box in 2006 … and could get again Nov. 4.
