SCRA Scam: It’s Raining Documents

By fitsnews • on October 10, 2008

A pile of private e-mails and confidential internal memos obtained by FITSNews today could shed additional light on a scandal that has South Carolina lawmakers scratching their heads and South Carolina taxpayers seething with rage.

Sure, it’s not Iran-Contra, but lawmakers (and possibly some real investigators, too) are nonetheless trying to determine how money intended for S.C. entrepreneurs ended up being improperly diverted to the state’s research universities.

Our original story detailing the scam has sparked a firestorm of controversy, which isn’t surprising given the shady circumstances surrounding this latest power grab by House Speaker Bobby Harrell and Larry Wilson, his big government “Svengali.”

Among the private e-mails and related correspondence we obtained is a letter directly from Speaker Harrell to the board members of the S.C. Research Authority.

In this letter, Harrell not only makes clear his intention to force the transfer of the funds ($8 million in tax credits that was contributed by private sources specifically for entrepreneurial investments) but to also “eliminate” a longstanding prohibition that has heretofore prevented the State of South Carolina investing taxpayer money into private companies.

Stay tuned …

It’s been a couple of months since that press conference, the one where Harrell, Cooper, Leatherman and McConnell laid out their state-sponsored plan for “jumpstarting the state’s economy,” so I forget: was the S.C. Research Authority part of the pyramid, the pillars or the pipelines? I lost my notes.

The seven deadly sins, also known as the capital vices or cardinal sins, are a classification of vices that were originally used in early Christian teachings to educate and instruct followers concerning (immoral) fallen man’s tendency to sin. The actions of Bobby Harrell and Hugh Leatherman’s vices will be the virtue for many in the near future.

Am I missing something? You all must be much smarter than me, especially Tired who gets a “Bingo” from this. I just don’t see the big scandal or what the story is even trying to accuse him of. I read the first story 3 times and still had no idea what the hell you were talking about. And when you make references to “internal memos” and documents you have, why don’t you ever post them?

That perches in the soul.
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all.”

Don’t hold your breath for those mysterious “internal memos.” Remember sic(k) willie promised details about the Midlands elected official he claimed had a Strom problem, and promised details about his allegation the gub’ner paid off the family of some “poor little black girl” in Beaufort, and promised details about misuse of the gub’ners laptop, and promised details about so many other willie scams that BIN News had to hire a Brazillion new staff members just to keep up with them all. Do the math: sic(k) willie = scam.
