Rove, GOP Down On McCain’s Chances

By fitsnews • on October 7, 2008

Karl Rove may not have ever gotten laid in his entire life, but he got the intellectual equivalent of a chimpanzee elected to the White House (twice), so he obviously knows a little something about politics.

The former brain behind President George W. Bailout … err, Bush … weighed in on the 2008 campaign yesterday on his website, saying that Democratic nominee Barack Obama is “clearly” ahead of GOP nominee John McCain in key battleground states according to the most recent tracking polls.

From Rove.com’s electoral update:

39 new state polls released in the first three days of October have given Barack Obama his first lead over the magic number of 270 since mid-July. Minnesota (10 EV) and New Hampshire (4 EV) both moved from toss-up to Obama, giving him 273 electoral votes to McCain’s 163, with 102 votes remaining as a toss-up.

Rove adds that Obama is carrying all the states that former Democratic nominee John Kerry won in 2004, and has added Iowa, Colorado, New Mexico to his column. Obama is also in a dead heat with McCain in four other population-heavy states that went Republican in 2004 - Florida, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia.

Of those states, Virginia hasn’t gone Democratic since 1964, while North Carolina hasn’t gone Democratic since 1976.

Perhaps because he feels obliged to do so, Rove says that the 2008 race is still very dynamic and “susceptible to rapid changes,” pointing to the fact that as recently as two weeks ago McCain held a 216-215 electoral college advantage over Obama.

South Carolina politicos see the writing on the wall for McCain, with one telling FITS in confidence that “unless there’s a terrorist attack on U.S. soil within the next month, it’s over.”

McCain must “gut” Obama…which would not be hard to do. But he won’t. He will play like he will…he will cut around the edges. But it is not in his nature and he will not do what is necessary.

Obama is a dream. He floats above it all. Newt, Mitt or Hucabee would gut him 5 ways from Sunday. But not John McCain. Our SCGOP leadership…only interested in personal power and money, made this happen. They have seriously damaged our party and state, and now this bunch can lay claim on the country.

Katon, Mark and the crowd know how to promote themselves, but not how to serve the people. And in the end, it is all about the people…and they have had enough of our GOP.

“unless there’s a terrorist attack on U.S. soil within the next month, it’s over.”

What a great statement about the “Country First” candidate. /sarcasm

But isn’t this just an attempt to gel the base and strike fear in the hearts of Obama-haters in these states? I’m shocked gay marriage, flag burning and abortion referendums haven’t popped up in Ohio and Florida.

Seriously, people. Am I really the only one who remembers how wrong the polls were in 2004?

By fitsnews on October 7th, 2008 at 9:17 am

Toyota,

What exactly are we “helping not one bit” with?

You dipshit Republicans think everybody should just excuse it when your candidates spend like Dems and go along w/ the mother of all boondoggles, all because they have an “R” in front of their name.

Fuck that.

FITS is right. Time for the Republicans to reclaim their party and kick the big government communists out.

By Joseph Reynolds on October 7th, 2008 at 10:14 am

Why not just bolt and start a new party…

The Conservative party…..then we clearly have 3 choices..

left…middle..and right…

I would completely agree with you if Obama wasn’t the choice on the democratic ticket. He is too dangerous to allow in office. If Hillary were the nominee, I would say teach them all a lesson and let them lose. Hillary, however, looks like a conservative compared to Obama. Obama’s vision for America is “from each according to their ability, to each according to their need.” We all know how that works out.

By the way, for anyone who is interested, there is a large immigration raid going on in Greenville right now.

Yeah, them thar illegalz are bad… Come on, there are far worse things going on in this country (think SC education - what a scam) then some illegals trying to provide a better life for their family than in their own gawd forsaken shithole of a country. We should just tax the hell out ‘em like the rest of us…Just because you were born here doesn’t mean you can’t open your arms and share a piece of the American dream with those who want to work hard and provide a better life…hell if we’re to get out of this aweful economic mess, business may very well need more hard working people willing to work at a lower wage…you know what that means…

By Country before Party on October 7th, 2008 at 11:17 am

McCain is not a fiscal conservative , limited government Republican leader. McCain has no plans to balance our budget. He is not for any major reform in our federal government.

If you are for a limited federal government, a balanced budget, and for protecting your privacy and individual rights you hav e to vote 3rd party. McCain or Obama are both false choices- so quit trying to defend McCain against Obama - it is a mindless argument .

Good answer Sally, but Hillary drank from the same cesspool Hussein did….
Fits, both parties suck, but how do you get the sheeples to throw off their self imposed shackles and wake up to the fact we’re losing the greatest idea in the history of mankind? What other country has ever used its people and treasury to bring freedom and opportunity to others? I’m beginning to believe that this country needs a dose of Hussein to understand the pain he’s looking to inflict. Just read the Navy Times last evening, article showcasing how the military is looking to vote in this election, Officers and Enlisted are overwhelmingly looking at McCain, these are men and women that are voting with their lives….kinda makes my concerns puny….

how do you propose taxing people who are receiving money under the table?

By Sam on October 7th, 2008 at 2:03 pm

Screw McCain and Obama. They are two sides of the same coin. If you really want to save this country, vote Libertarian.

By Natasha on October 7th, 2008 at 2:52 pm

If illegals had to pay taxes in order to be legal, to gain legal status in this country…they would do it. They’re only illegal because they can’t get their visas extended or are not allowed citizenship…they (how awful) want the same dream we all have…to provide the best life to their families possible…what if you were born into some shithole in guatemala or hondurus or mexico…would you want to live in a slum making pennies a day and living in horrible conditions and poverty? my guess is prolly not…

That is nice theory. In reality, it is throwing your vote away. Maybe at some point in the future a Libertarian will be president, but it won’t be this election.

Gee Natasha, so if we hire these poor people at lower wages, where would imbeciles like you find a job? These people break the law and violate the sovereignty of the US, use social services they’re not entitled to, use false identification to violate more US laws, all because they live in a shithole of a country, By you’re reasoning, I guess it’s ok to allow anyone to come into the US unasked. I’m sure that every April 15th, you willingly give the local, state and federal taxing authorities enough money to take care of the debt they have incurred. And unlike other immigrants that followed the rules, became American citizens, paid taxes, educated their children these poor excuses for human beings deserve not only to be deported but to be walked from where they are picked up to the nearest border all the while buying their own food and water, sleeping in ditches etc until they re-enter their respective countries. I will welcome anyone that follows the rules, but for those willfully violating our sovereignty…

By Natasha on October 7th, 2008 at 6:17 pm

Rick-ety Rick Rick…

There I was having an exchange of pleasantries with Ms. Calder and you had to go and call me an imbecile…

I know Web 2.0 is hard to distinguish the nice from the not-so-nice, but honestly, we can all do without name calling…In fact, I’d bet that we’re both voting for the same man and woman for office come November.

There is no way in hell you can deport the millions upon millions of illegals in the US today. Why not have them pay into the system so they pay for the services they use…Why not let them get insurance so they don’t leave hospitals to write off bad debt…But maybe they “threaten” the likes of you for some unknown reason…Have you ever been outside the US? Wait, have you ever been outside SC?

But lets face it, an imbecile like me, why I do perrty well for myself, perrty well respected in my field, perrty well compensated, no complaints. There is no reason to go about calling people names for a difference of opinion or exchange of ideas…

This isn’t the playground or pre-k.

By Scared of the System on October 7th, 2008 at 8:30 pm

Is voting for Obama in SC throwing your vote away when you know McCain will win the state? No! So if you support the Libertarian idea of less government than vote that way, I am!

Natasha, I agree with you that the mechanics of rounding up 12 million+ illegals and deporting them are virtually impossible. I personally am not opposed to some type of arrangement where illegals here who have no record and have been productive members of society can gain a legal status. Whatever that status may be. However, there are so many here, and it has had such negative impacts on our society and economy, that it cannot be ignored. Something has to be done.
