It’s Still Vanderbilt, People

By fitsnews • on October 6, 2008

After a shocking 14-13 upset of Auburn, the Vanderbilt Commodores are undefeated and ranked No. 13 in the nation.

In case you’re not familiar with those terms being used in the same sentence, we’ll break them down for you.

Vanderbilt. Undefeated. Ranked No. 13 in the nation.

And while South Carolina (and now Auburn) apologists are pointing to the fact that Vandy is obviously much better than anybody thought they were prior to the start of this season, the Commodores still strike us as a vastly overrated football team, much like another SEC also-ran was during the early October weeks of last season.

Like the 2007 Gamecocks, the 2008 Commodores (5-0, 3-0 SEC) have only one big win under their belts, with grueling games left against the top three teams in the SEC East - Georgia, Florida and Kentucky.

Wait, Kentucky? That’s right … the Wildcats hung close with No. 2 Alabama Saturday in Tuscaloosa before ultimately being handed their first loss of the season.

Don’t get us wrong, Vandy is good. And with Mississippi State and Duke left on their schedule (and a home game against a surprisingly weak Tennessee squad) they are clearly going bowling for the first time since the Reagan administration.

But that doesn’t mean they should be the thirteenth-ranked team in America, and it doesn’t mean South Carolina (or Auburn) fans should cling to the hope that losing to a resurgent Vanderbilt team bodes well for their prospects the rest of the year.

It’s still Vanderbilt, people.

Last time I checked, the rankings were based on past record, and not Future Schedule. Fact is, they have three quality SEC wins. Deal with it.

Long way to go. We’ll see what the ‘Dores are made of. So far so good…

The author of this unsubstantiated blathering is a tool box.

“Look mom, it’s easy to write a small, horse crap article!”

The fact is, you are saying none of the teams that Vanderbilt has played are any good precisely BECAUSE they lost to Vandy. If they hadn’t, people would be singing the praises of Ole Miss, Auburn, and South Carolina.

Bitter? Yep, they are still Vanderbilt, who is 5-0 now. And your still South Carolina. Which has never been anything more than a middle of the road SEC team. And has lost to Vandy now 2 years in a row.

And wtf are you trying to say? You start your article by saying its still same old Vandy. But then you say they are clearly going bowling and could win 8 games. Huh? You just contradicted yourself. I don’t think same old Vandy wins 6 games let alone 8. Nobody is saying they are going to win the freaking SEC. Get a clue.

The article would have been much more complementary about the football team if a few Vandy coeds had flashed their tits…

since they didnt…you see what you get

Hey Jo, while you may be used to some of the loose girls in Columbia, Vanderbilt women have a bit more class. Nice try. Maybe you’ll get the Dores in basketball… no wait… baseball… whoops… well, you’re close to Charleston.
