Stevens Might Get Off

In news that could wreak more financial havoc in Washington that the infamous $700 billion federal bailout, Alaska Senator and legendary pork barreler Ted Stevens appears to be on the verge of getting a mistrial in his corruption case.

Yeah, color us shocked.

Stevens, who was indicted in July on seven counts of fraud for failing to disclose gifts from a company that had business before him in the U.S. Senate, is riding high at the moment after federal prosecutors are alleged to have withheld FBI reports that were favorable to him.

From the AP:

U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan lashed out at prosecutors, then sent jurors home so he could decide whether the trial, now in its second week, should go forward.

“This is not about prosecution by any means necessary,” he said. “It’s not about hiding the ball. … I find it unbelievable that this was just an error.”

Prosecutor Brenda Morris said it was all an innocent oversight that wasn’t serious enough to hurt the defense case or cause a mistrial.

“It wasn’t done intentionally,” she said. “It was human error.”

Whatever … our bet is that these “prosecutors” withheld it intentionally so Stevens could get off on a technicality.

Think that’s far-fetched? This guy owns the federal budget, people. In fact, we hear that when Stevens and the budget are alone together, he likes to ask it “who’s your daddy” and the budget just giggles and says “you are” while assuming the position.

Seriously, this guy could walk into a crowed shopping mall with a sawed-off shotgun and start blowing people away and he’d probably still get off on some ridiculous technicality, like the government realizing at the last second that they “forgot” to read him his Miranda rights.

This stinks, people.

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?? The evidence provided by both the Defense and the Prosecution support Mr. Stevens. How can one report things that they had no knowledge of? This man has served this country longer than any other Republican Senator in US history. It’s unbelievable to think he would throw it all away for some measly house renovations.

think you’re getting a little black helicopter. The prosecutors made a huge mistake and hopefully he will be retried fairly.

And what if he is simply innocent? Compare the Girdwood house of Senator Stevens to other Senators house’s aroound the country. Check out their purchases and remodels and see what great deals they got. Now look at how many of these Senators have been investigated for not disclosing gifts.

If in fact, Senator Stevens knowingly did not report a gift, let the full Senate deal with it. These are not felony type crimes. How many of your taxe dollars have been spent on this investigation? The Feds could easily be wrong. Check out Security Aviation and the five felony counts that were brought against them by the DOJ. Then check out the five “not guilty” verdicts that followed. Time will tell.

That’s the trouble with the people of the U.S. Everyone thinks he did no wrong I differ He should be expelled as a Senator and made to pay for his oversight. Anyone else would be hanged. He was found guilty now he should pay. He’s too old to run again we need new direction and that’s the trouble with Congress And the Senators. Ought to be a TERM LIMIT. He’s Guilty the Jury said so. Now he deserves punishment not a slap on the wrist’ He will do it again only worse. DON.
