How’s That Raise Looking Now?
As totally craptacular as the University of South Carolina’s football team is this year, the good news is that the Clempsun Tigers are just as bad … if not worse.
Frustration levels are certainly high here in Columbia, but they’re off the charts up in Farmertown, S.C., where Clempsun head coach Tommy Bowden began the season with the No. 9 team in the nation and a huge salary increase after he successfully “milked” Clempsun for a $600,000 a year raise last December.
In his tenth season at Clemson, Bowden is 72-44. Previously, he was 18-4 in two seasons at Tulane, including an undefeated 11-0 mark in 1998.
After a season-opening humiliation against Alabama and last week’s second-half collapse against Maryland, Clempsun fans are once again howling for Bowden’s head.
One S.C. Website, Palmetto Scoop, is already speculating as to whether or not Bowden will be fired as early as this week – basing that speculation on reports that Clempsun Athletics Director Terry Don Phillips has already been in talks with several potential replacement candidates.
Incidentally, how great is it that Clempsun’s Athletic Director is named “Terry Don Phillips.” Betcha that guy can milk a cow.
Anyway, the Tigers would be wise to end the suspense and just get rid of Bowden. Seriously, everybody at Clempsun has hated him from the get-go – sort of like they hated Ken Hatfield and Tommy West before him.
In the eyes of Tiger fans, nobody will ever measure up to Danny Ford, who won a national championship but also got caught on two separate occasions violating NCAA rules against paying athletes.
Anyway, we’re looking forward to hearing y’alls thoughts on Bowden’s status …

I hate the Shamecocks. I just wanted to say that.
I love the Tigers. I go to every home game, and some away games. I have never been one to bitch about Tommy Bowden, as a matter of fact, I have been very supportive.
Not anymore. Tommy Bowden is one of the most over rated coaches in the NCAA. He sucks. His staff sucks. We have some of the best talent in the country and this idiot gets a lead and then plays prevent defense and prevent offense. What a freakin moron.
Any way, it has to be the “chicken curse” that is causing us so much grief. Brad Scott has brought the curse with him.
I am beginning to realize how you morons in the gamecock nation feel. Except we are 117 games above .500 and the gamecocks are 3 games below .500 lifetime. Speaking of which, did you know that the gamecocks would have to win every game for 10 years to match our record? Every game for 10 years.
Gamecocks suck!

Personally, I feel that neither team has a lot to brag about, at the moment. And we can all try and remain civil, especially when both teams suck as much as they do. But you can always count on unjustified, inflammatory remarks by Clemson fans, season-to-season. haha, it’s okay Clemson Fan, you lost to Maryland. Dig deep for those percentages and other numbers that give justification to shitty teams! have fun with that. In the meantime, don’t forget that W = win, and L = Loss. These are the only stats you need to be concerned with.

South Carolina football on the whole (both teams) are just like the SC Legislature. They have embraced mediocrity and do just enough to get by.
The entire state sucks at just about everything. Football just serves as a visual reminder of that fact.
