Tommy Bowden’s Clempsun Tigers choked again … this time falling in heartbreaking fashion to Anybody Can Compete (ACC) rival Maryland in the sort of game that costs head coaches their jobs.

After three consecutive wins, Bowden’s twentieth-ranked and heavily-favored farmers (3-2, 1-1 ACC) fell to the unranked Terrapins despite the fact that they enjoyed virtual supremacy on the ground … as well as a 17-6 lead midway through the third quarter.

But Clempsun couldn’t get one rushing yard when it desperately needed to, as quarterback Cullen Harper was stopped on a key fourth-and-one play with just over five minutes remaining in the game.

Maryland’s offense was able to run out the clock at that point, having already scorched the Tigers’ defense for two second-half touchdowns that put them ahead 20-17.

Maryland (4-1, 1-0 Anybody Can Compete) has now defeated Clempson in three of its last four visits to Death Valley.

Supposedly, a Clemson Board member refeered to the Tigers performance after the game as “that’s the kind of game that gets a head coach fired.” Bobby Johnson will be in Tatertown next year.

If our search falls all the way to Bobby Johnson, we are in trouble.

Will Muschamp is the current #1 pick.
