Obama To Dump Biden For Hillary?

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama will dump Sen. Joe Biden from the ticket and replace him with Hillary Clinton, according to an anonymous e-mail we’ve received at least three times already this morning.

It’s likely just the latest in a long line of political hoaxes, but the specificity with which it lays out the scenario (to say nothing of the compelling argument it makes) leaves us wondering how long it will be before Obama is forced to go on CNN to deny it.

Anyway, here’s the e-mail we’ve been forwarded thrice this AM:

Hmmm … we’ve got a call into our Obama connections to see if there’s anything to it (and a call into our McCain connections to see if they’re behind it) but in the meantime it’s safe to say the e-mail raises an interesting question.

Obviously Republican John McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has shook the 2008 campaign to its very foundations, fundamentally altering the electoral landscape by reinvigorating the GOP base as well as dramatically improving McCain’s prospects with independent women.

By contrast, Obama’s selection of Biden has been a dud, earning praise from insiders but a big yawn from the public.

Also, the real conversation on the Democratic side isn’t about who Obama picked, but who he passed over.

Seriously, people, if we had a nickel for every time somebody has told us “he was crazy not to pick (Hillary),” then we wouldn’t have to whore ourselves out for website advertisers … like this.

Of course, assuming Obama did decide to make such a move, how would he pull it off? After all, Democrats have been dogging McCain’s selection of Palin as crass opportunism every since he announced it. Wouldn’t ditching Biden for Hillary (on false pretenses, no less) come off as even more fake and disingenuous?

And what about Hillary? She’s obviously looking at another run for the White House and no doubt privately relishes the fact that Obama is suddenly in the fight of his life.

What incentive would she have to go along with this? Particularly after Obama had his chance to pick her and then blew it?
