SNL Upheaval

With the exception of two spoof music videos, Saturday Night Live has pretty much sucked for the past couple of decades, but Amy Poehler and Tina Fey have been two notable exceptions to the “dearth of mirth” on the once groundbreaking late night live comedy show.

Not anymore, sadly, as Poehler (known best for her portrayal of Hillary Clinton) announced today that she’s leaving SNL after seven years to have a baby – like, for real.

From the New York Daily News:

“It’s gonna be really hard – Boyz II Men hard – to say goodbye to yesterday,” Poehler jokingly said of her nearly seven-year stint on the show.

“‘SNL’ was dangerous, late-night, last-minute and star-studded, but like any good drug, you need to know when to put it down.”

In related SNL news, alum Chevy Chase said yesterday morning that Poehler’s Clinton character was basically no longer relevant, and that her partner-in-crime Tina Fey should have been much harder in her portrayal of GOP Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin.

From FOX News:

Chevy Chase said Monday he wants Tina Fey to go “even harder” on Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin than she did in her “Saturday Night Live” skit this past weekend … and that he wants Fey to “decimate” her.

“I thought it was extraordinary how well she played her and much she looked like her. I’d just like her — personally I felt we didn’t need the Hillary stuff — I’d like her to go even harder,” the former “SNL” star told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” show.

“I want her to decimate this woman. This woman is, I can’t believe there hasn’t been more about it. … It’s just unbelievable to me this woman is actually running for vice president,” he continued.

In related news, we’re investigating a rumor that Hollywood doesn’t like Republicans. Yeah, we couldn’t believe it when it was first passed on to us, either, but we’ll be sure to let you know what we find out …

Dear sic(k) willie,

As we’ve said many times b4: “…you ignorant slut…” is a line from SNL that fits you like a glove. Glad you’re a fan.

“Decimate” is used incorrectly by Chevy Chase – it means to reduce by 1/10 – not destroy completely.
