It may bear about as much connection to reality as an EA Sports video game, but Jeff Sagarin’s USA Today computer rankings still have the Palmetto State’s top two football teams ranked among the top forty programs in the nation.
Despite a 1-2 record, Sagarin’s computer has Steve Spurrier’s Gamecocks ranked No. 34, while Clemson is holding down the No. 37 spot.
Carolina is the highest-rated team with two losses in Sagarin’s poll, while Clemson trails eight other teams which have at least one loss on their 2008 record. You can see the Sagarin rankings for yourself by clicking here.
Clemson, however, will still get its forthcoming S.C. State highlights on national television given that the Tigers rank No. 23 in the AP Top 25 and No. 21 in the Coaches’ poll.
Also, CNNSI’s Stewart Mandel has Clemson at No. 19 in his NCAA Power Rankings.
Frankly, we think both teams are overrated.
South Carolina has no offense and Clemson has no one with an IQ over 70. Neither bodes well for the long haul, people.

Does it really matter who wins the battle of mediocre teams from a backwater state where reading, writing and arithmetic are not required for high school graduation? NOT! Do Loserville (Gameclucks) and IQ Lower Than My Waste Size (Clempson) really matter? DOUBLE NOT!

Mandel did write: “Four teams ranked 15th or lower last week suffered defeats, causing teams like Clemson to rise higher than is really merited.”

Yes, Clay, the state rivalry does matter. In case you haven’t noticed, we don’t care about education in this state. In fact, the only reason these two fine institutions for higher education were chartered, was to make money and give the village idiots something to “crow” about. In the meantime, just shut up and play along, it’s football season. No brains, no headaches.

The school with the team featuring the best true student-athletes in the state — Wofford College — was ranked 77 by Sagarain.
