Feelin’ The Pain
Gas prices in South Carolina soared Friday to more than $4 – and in some cases more than $5 a gallon – prompting both Gov. Mark Sanford and Attorney General Henry McMaster to take action against further supply shortages and price-gouging.
No word yet on which politician most effectively positioned themselves with respect to the issue, but with prices expected to shoot up to $4.50 a gallon today (regular was $3.60 yesterday), it’s doubtful there will be much in the way of safe harbor for anybody.
Long story short, people are going to be pissed.
The sudden jump in prices is a result of several key refineries shutting down on the Texas coast as Hurricane Ike battered that state early this morning.
South Carolina is not alone in feeling Ike’s effects at the pump – Georgia also invoked its price-gouging law yesterday and Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia are facing similar shortages.
