Fees And Loons

It’s a pretty solid idea for South Carolina to take a step back and look at the $7 billion in fees its state agencies collect each year.

But putting State Senator David Thomas in charge of that effort? Seriously?

You’d have better luck letting a dyslexic sea otter babysit your toddler.

Anyway, in addition to the disturbing personage of Thomas himself is the fact his panel is only looking at seven out of the eleventy kabillion agencies our ass-backward state operates, to say nothing of this little tidbit from the AP report:

Thomas’s panel saw a presentation that suggests the state, known for relatively low income taxes, is out of line with the rest of the country in depending on non-general fund cash.

It showed state and local governments in South Carolina relied on a non-general fund tax collections for a quarter of their spending compared with a national average of just over 15 percent.

Jeez. Given the spending habits of the retards who run this state, you could literally show them a video of sea otters humping and they’d be funding a new S.C. Center for Sea Mammal Reproductive Research in like five minutes.

It’s getting them to not fund useless stuff that’s the problem.

Anyway, South Carolina’s seven percent top marginal income tax rate is the highest in the Southeast and the fifth-highest in the country. If that’s a “relatively low income tax,” then you could probably call the 40% rate at which these jackasses grew our government from 2005-07 “relatively low,” too.

Needless to say, if this panel doesn’t come back with a fresh batch of “revenue enhancement” recommendations for draining even more money from our state’s economy, you can color us shocked.

After blowing through our tax dollars at twice the rate of other states while they’re in session, these bozos are now going to spend the off-season dreaming up new ways to stick it up our asses.

And, of course, the end result of this latest taxpayer ass-rape will be our state ending up right back where it started – first in everything bad and last in everything good.

“S.C. Center for Sea Mammal Reproductive Research”

We all know that Sic would support that. As long as he got to watch the “research.” He’d probably go hoping there were mermaids.

First, you insulted sea otters everywhere. Next, trouble is that our General Assembly has resources that it refuses to use. Much as you malign our universities, our state has a set of excellent economists who have produced pages upon pages of information. But since little of it says what our legislators want to hear, the ignore it. Give us Democrats a chance! Hard to believe we’d be the party of fiscal conservancy, but anything’s more conservative than what we’ve had.
