Bustin’ Makes Us Feel Good

Like Indiana Jones and Axel Foley, another successful eighties film franchise is poised to give the 21st Century a go. This time it’s Ghostbusters, the 1984 classic (and equally-successful 1989 sequel) that marked the peak of the old school SNL comedy crossover and still stands as one of Columbia Pictures top-grossing films ever.

From Variety:

Columbia Pictures is getting serious about scaring up a new installment of its blockbuster “Ghostbusters” franchise.

The studio has set “The Office” co-exec producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to write a script for a film designed to bring back together the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson.

(The) studio would not comment on the development and has been mum on recent rumors that there was interest in making another installment of the franchise.

Holy hell … where is DJ Slick when we need him? Because he hates these retro reincarnations.

“It’s time for these old farts to move on,” Slick wrote when word got out that the Beverly Hills Cop franchise was being dusted off. “Quit screwing up great memories of classic flicks with these geriatric, genuflective atrocities.”

The first one was great and the second one was hideous.

If they’re gonna do it, let’s hope twenty years off gave them some new storyline ideas.

“Let’s show this prehistoric bitch how we do things downtown…”

“Ray…when someone asks if you’re a god…you say YES!!!”

OK…so I saw it a few time when I was a senior in high school….

“Nimble little minx, isn’t she…”

“Egon…your mucus…”

OK, I’ll stop now…

Oh no another Ghostbusters. Well i guess if I thought it was a good film when I was a kid, my own children might enjoy a newr one. But, how can you even attempt to fill the shoesof the likes of Bill Murray and dan Akroyd. It will be interesting to see who they choose……..

I agree with Earl Capps. The first Ghostbusters is a classic. The second Ghostbusters is unwatchable. Curiously, the latter is frequently shown on television. The first Beverly Hills Copy is a classic. Once in a blue moon an edited version will appear on television. I seem to recalling seeing the second BHC. Was that the one with Brigitte Nielson? I think there was a third installment that was direct to video or something?

Of course, I could say something similar about the Lethal Weapon series. The first is a classic. The second was pretty good — another reason to hate the U.N. and foreign diplomats The third was pretty good — that had Renee Russo (always a hottie). The rest are forgettable.

My wife & I got married in July 1984. On our wedding night, we decided to go eat at KFC in N. Charleston and then go see GhostBusters. KFC took too long on our order, so we stuffed the chicken in her purse and sat in the theater eating fried chicken. Maybe it wasn’t classy, (we aren’t pretentious) but it sure was fun, and very memorable. Five years later, just for the heck of it, we did the same thing to see GB2. We are coming up on our 25th anniversary next July. She is as young and beautiful as every. I wonder what we should do for our anniversary…
