Forget competing against Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and the rest of the powers that be in the SEC, Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina Gamecocks can’t even beat Vanderbilt.
For the second year in a row, South Carolina has fallen to the perennial Southeastern Conference cellar dwellers, dropping a 24-17 decision in Nashville tonight that exposed critical weaknesses on both sides of the football, on special teams and on the coaching staff.
The Gamecocks led 10-3 at halftime – largely on the strength of their vaunted defensive unit – but fell apart in the second half as they gave up touchdowns on three consecutive drives, the first caused by a costly special teams miscue.
South Carolina also missed a field goal and had another one blocked, and was once again plagued by false start penalties and excessively conservative play-calling on offense.
Three draw plays on third and long? Failing to go for it on fourth down with less than three minutes left in the game?
C’mon Ball Coach, show some balls.
We lost a lot of respect for Steve Spurrier last year – not just for the way his team fell apart after that season’s debilitating loss to Vanderbilt, but for the way he went after the fans for booing his team’s lackluster effort.
Well, we’re booing again tonight, coach. And you can lick the back of our hairy beanbags if you’ve got a problem with that.
We’re booing because it’s year four of your so-called rebuilding project and you just lost to friggin’ Vanderbilt … again.
Like we said at the end of last season, it’s typical Carolina Football. It looks like we’ll forever be a program that hires big-name coaches so we can go 6-6 every year, or 7-5 if we’re lucky (and manage to beat friggin’ Vanderbilt).

Yeah, it must suck to lose to “friggin’” Vanderbilt, especially when there’s not much consolation in losing to an opponent who beats you off AND now on the field…

These are the final three words on this subject. After these three, no more are needed…
The Chicken curse…

It’s one thing to be beat by Alabama, but Vandy? You will be lucky to be 6-6. Looks like the ole ball coach is falling prey to the USuC curse. This is where all good coaches go to die. Good thing USuC is a baseball school!

We could point out that Vanderbilt is getting better, but what’s the point?
USuC is right …

Just another ordinary year for the Shamecocks. Spurrier has to be thinking what the hell he got himself into to.

Why is anyone surprised? After what happened with Washington, one thing is clear. Regardless of talent on the team, Spurrier will find a way to tank!

We beat Georgia last year and then lost to Vanderbilt. I predict a Georgia win next week. Why not? We aren’t consistent at all. And it is Georgia. Always a close game. Maybe we will catch some of those breaks this week.

I’m having T-Shirts with the Gamecock motto printed this week:
“Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!”
Long live the chicken curse!
