Republicans Need To Simmer Down

As of last night, eleventy kabillion people (give or take a few) have sent us the “controversial” YouTube clip of Democrats John Spratt and Don Fowler joking about Hurricane Gustav’s disruption of the Republican national convention.

Not surprisingly, all eleventy kabillion of these people were Republicans … and they all seemed pretty pissed off about it.

Not unlike SCGOP Chairman Katon Dawson, who had this to say about Spratt and Fowler:

The outrageous behavior of two of the Obama campaign’s highest profile supporters in the south is despicable, a cynical politization of life and death. I call on Barack Obama to immediately denounce Fowler and Spratt and demand sincere apologies from these members of the Democratic leadership.

Uh … really?

First of all, we’re gonna go out on a limb and guess that Barack Obama doesn’t have even the foggiest notion who Katon Dawson is, and as a result could give a rat’s ass what his “demands” are.

Second, how is this even remotely a big deal?

It’s obvious to a friggin’ four-year-old that Spratt and Fowler (who we thought died back in the eighties) were joking … sort of like we joked about Gustav hitting Mississippi.

In neither moment of levity was death and destruction really wished upon anyone, which is why the only people divining sinister intent here are those who are either too stupid to live (i.e. Mississippians) or those who get paid to put out press releases that include words like “outrageous” and “despicable” (i.e. Republicans).

Frankly, it’s overreactions like this one that make us think Republicans don’t get laid much.

if the Republican congressman got caught joking about Gustav with Katon Dawson, it’d be all over the State newspaper and they’d be called on to resign. Think if some bigwhig Republican like Karl Rove got caught joking about Gustav? It’d be the end of him. Dems can get away with this stuff. You know that. Come on man.

My response to the previous commenter is – uh, no. And then I respond, where was the outrage on Fox News over Hagee blaming Katrina on the gays, and Focus on the Family praying for torrential downpours and flooding during Obama’s speech? …. that’s right, crickets chirp because there wasn’t any – so as Sic Willie said – get over yourself, sister.

Wow, I guess they missed blowhard, Michael Moore joking with Olberman that Gustav hitting NOLA on the opening night of the Republican Convention was sign that there was a God. I don’t know about you, but I think there is a bigger spotlight on Moore than on Dawson. How about everyone stop trying to tiptoe through the tulips on the issue. A hurricane that is nowhere near as strong as Katrina hits NOLA, everyone batten down the damn hatches, its the end of the world because we as a nation somehow need to have an emotional connection to NOLA…please cut the crap and get over it already.

I can’t wait for the next joke along the lines of “let them eat cake”…I mean it’s only a joke. How about some black face sketches and sprinkle in some redneck jokes. The are only people in power for God’s sake….their jokes mean nothing.

Ignorance knows no party, but seems the Dems are working mighty hard at perfecting it tho…..

If these Republicans knew half of what John Spratt does for the people of South Carolina (which, in their heart, they do), then they wouldn’t attack him. If and when John Spratt retires, South Carolina will be thirsting for leadership.

The real shame in Washington are the blowhards like Wilson, Barrett and DeMint who are too busy trying to make a name for themselves instead of representing the best interests of their constituents. John Spratt is of that Tip O’Neill mentality that all politics is local, which is why he busts his ass for the people of South Carolina, in order to save their’s. This is why John Spratt, with the exception of the strong GOP year in 1994, has not come close to being defeated. He’ll win this year with 74% of the vote, the 26% going to this no show from Republican bendovers like Katon Dawson.

Like I said Ignorance is bliss and “By John Spratt is God” you without a doubt are blissful indeed.
